Less than 24 hours until the buses depart from Silver Lake High School in Kingston!
Hello Parents!
In less than 24 hours you will be "sadly" waving goodbye to your child as we embark on this week long trip! Enjoy your free time and take advantage of it!
My name is Katie Steele (Mr. Steele's daughter). I have been going on this trip since I was 5 years old (I am a wapping 26 now). This will be my 5th year chaperoning the trip. I love DC and know it like the back of my hand! My plan is to update the blog as much as possible so you can see what fun we are having! This is my first blog so bear with me! I will do my best to attach photos and updates of the trip!
Reminder: Plan to be at the School by 4:45
AM. I emphasized the "AM" because no one wants to be that parent we have to wake up and remind them we are leaving NOW not tonight (yes, it has happened, more than once!).
A few packing reminders: SUNSCREEN- We will do our best to remind the kids to apply and re-apply, but make sure they pack plenty!
DEODORANT- I don't think this one needs an explanation....
SHOES- Please make sure your child packs COMFORTABLE walking shoes. We do a LOT of walking, up to five miles a day. It is also important to pack a nicer pair of shoes for the dinner cruise.
Flip flops are NOT an acceptable form of footwear for the dinner cruise OR during the trip for walking.
Clothing- Pack comfortable clothing, t-shirts, shorts, pants, sweatshirts, ect. Be sure to pack ONE nice outift for the dinner cruise (girls be sure to pack a sweater for your dress, the boat can be a bit chilly when the sun goes down). Spaghetti straps, daisy dukes, half shirts, halter tops, ripped clothing or other revealing attire is
NOT ALLOWED through out the trip.
Bags- Make sure the child can carry their suitcase themselves. There are stairs at the hotel and the child must be able to carry their own luggage. Whatever is packed in the suitcase will be loaded under the bus tomorrow morning and the child will
not have access again until Monday night at the hotel. Whatever they need for the bus ride down to DC and the rest of the day should be backed in a small backpack/bag that will be kept with the child in their seat.
Money- Chaperones wil not be responsible for your child's money.
Medications- All medical forms should have been turned in already but no student is allowed to take any medication unless we have it in writing from the guardian. Students are expected to be responsible for their own medication unless they do not feel comfortable doing so. In that case, discuss a plan with the chaperone.
