Yesterday we left early for Provincetown in order to catch the 10 am whale watching trip. It was a gorgeous day with calm seas, even though the boat had to turn back the previous day because of rough seas. There is a marine sanctuary not too far off the tip of the cape where the humpback whales gather to feed on their migration and that's where the boat headed. The naturalist on board was wonderful and did a very thorough job explaining about the whales. On the 3 hour trip we saw 14 humpback whales, including several mother-calf pairs. After the cruise we enjoyed our picnic lunch before heading back to Mashpee and our condo. Today we did some driving around the Cape, and had our lunch on South Beach......another beautiful day! Both Tom and I had this preconception that Cape Cod would be all expansive ocean views whichever direction you took, but we were way off base. The area is so wooded that getting to the beach requires a sense of purpose and good directions. Yesterday I struck up a conversation with a lady who was also doing laundry who was visiting from North Carolina, and she made the same comment......said she felt as if she was in the mountains close to her home rather than Cape Cod. Just another confirmation that there's no substitute for actual experience. We're off tomorrow to Boston----wish us luck! Tom & Nancy

ps: the picture of me cooking is significant because that's the first time on this trip we've been able to do that.
