Lighthouse fresnel lens, an early 1800s French invention.
Sankaty Head Lighthouse 1850 was located  too close to receding cliffs, so was moved about 400 feet inland (an incredibly complex operation) in 2007.

At the end of this short street, through a manicured archway, is the home of the late General Douglas Macarthur of WW2, post-war Japan, and Korean War renown.

Main Street (1697) was paved with cobblesones imported from the mainland in 1837.  Note the grey cedar shakes, one of only two materials allowed.
