New Bedford, MA, is the whaling capital of the world. When we began planning this trip, New Bedford was on Joe's list of places he wanted to see. We were the first ones into the NPS visitor center this morning to get maps and information and then walked around the old town admiring the granite stone roads, the architecture of the old buildings, and the whaling influenced shops. The Whaling Museum is a first class operation. We spent over two hours there learning about the whaling industry through the ages. The docents were all intelligent and well-spoken people that were excited about whales. We had lobster bisque and clam chowder at the Waterfront Cafe and then went to the harbor to view the Ernestina, a schooner launched in 1894. So it's now 49 down and one ... read more

Less than 48 hours......tick, tick, tick, tick.... I need to learn more about blogging, after reading the last entry I realized a kinda short-changed the "stars" of the show! More about our friends Cheryl and my wife have been friends FOREVER. She comes from an averaged sized but very close family. We are glad to have her (and them) in our lives.. She leaves behind a career in "high finance" (not really) so she can spoil the living crap out of her, soon to be two, grandchildren. Craig is a wildman...can't chain that mutha down. He bikes, he skis, he runs, he splits infinitives... He is unstoppable... We met Craig when we all worked together at a small local sporting goods shop you may have heard of...Sports Authority. Short entry to start...It is only at the urging of Craig that I have created this travel blog but it sounds like fun. We wanted to have the ability to share the adventure at hand, as it unfolds, with friends and family. This weekend we begin our adventure to the south and hope to see and experience a lot of new things: I have never seen any of the states south of Virginia, it seems that we are going to see Jimmy Buffett in Florida, it is my intention to drink my way around Epcot in Orlando and more.. Around this time two years ago I had just arrived back in the states from a seven month trip abroad in Spain. Although it has been nearly two years, I feel as though it was just yesterday that I stepped through the airport threshold and onto the boarding ramp in Madrid to return home. I can still sense the overwhelming array of feelings that radiated through my entire body at the exact moment that I left the embarkment section and took my first step into the airplane portal.
