We had a pretty late night yesterday, so when the alarm went off this morning at 7:00am to wake us up for breakfast, we opted to ignore it/turn it off and have a nice, long lie-in instead! When we eventually re-surfaced from our slumber and checked the time, to our surprise it was almost mid-day (well, 11:30am). We got washed/dressed pretty quickly to allow us to make the most of the rest of the day and finally headed outside at about 12:30pm to grab us a bite to eat.
We'd been planning to visit some shopping centres/malls for a little while anyway, so thought it a good idea to combine our urge for food with our plans for (window) shopping and eat at a food court inside one. We had checked where the nearest mall was - which was about a 20 minute walk away - so we strolled leisurely in that direction. We took a couple of pictures along the way of the old, historical churches and buildings in the local area before finally arriving at the 'Prudential Center' shopping mall at about 1:00pm'ish - on the way, walking past a chocolatier's shop that claimed to be 'by the
bald man'!
When we got inside, we looked at the map/store directiory on a notice board and located the food court - luckily, pretty much right infront of us! We walked around the different eateries, checking each menu for the prices, and finally settled on 'Gourmet India', which was a small Indian food eatery that served the usual mix of curries, vegetable dishes and rice/naan breads.
We both chose a combo meal, which meant we could have either rice or a naan bread, with a choice of 2 entrees from the pots. Again, we both chose rice (who chooses a single naan bread over half a plate of rice with a curry?!); with Emma picking a chicken tikka masala and something very similar to a jalfrezi as her entrees, and Craig picking chicken tikka masala also, but opted for chicken marinated in sour cream and spices then grilled to give it crisp-ness. We made our way down the service area to where we needed to pay, and unexpectedly also received a naan bread with our meals anyway (what would have happened if we had
chosen the naan as an option we wonder?).
Anyway, we paid for our
meals and sat down at the chairs/tables located in the centre of the food court. After about 10 minutes, the curries defeated us both, leaving us unable to polish off the last few pieces of chicken on either of our plates. We let our food rest for another 5-10 minutes before feeling able enough to actually stand up and walk around, then headed back out into the mall to check out the rest of the shops.
After walking for a while, we soon realised that the mall we were in was probably made for people with a much larger budget than our own, so made a swift exit through the back doors which closest to the subway station - having a quick peek into 'The Cheesecake Factory' on the way out.
Craig says: which looked absolutely delicious!!
Emma says: Yuk!
As it looked as though it could turn into quite a nice day (or at least a day void of rain), we decided that a trip to 'Boston Common' would be just the right sort of thing. We hopped on the Green Line, which literally ended up taking us to a few more shopping streets right over the
road from the common. We looked through a few more shops - finding a section in 'T.J Maxx' dedicated to doggie accessories and clothing, including a sheep costume and a devil tuxedo suit! - when finally, the sun made an appearance! We took this as an opportunity to quickly scoot on over to the park and have a nice, relaxing walk around it with the sunshine on our faces.
As we got closer to the trees, we could see quite a number of squirrels frollicking around in the grass beneath. We walked over to them and teased them with invisible food so that they would come closer. We took a couple of pictures before moving further into the park to take a better look around. We won't go into too many details in words - the pictures do all the talking - but basically, it was a huge public garden that consisted of lots of different types of trees, wildlife, ponds, lakes, statues, monuments and flowers. In all, we probably spent about 2-3 hours just walking around and relaxing on benches, watching the world - and the
plethora of squirrels - go by. We did also notice that the
squirrels we not scared by humans in the slighest, going as far as jumping up onto the bench that we were sitting on because it thought we had some food!
Eventually, as the sun got lower in the sky and it started feeling slightly cooler, we called it a day and walked towards the nearest subway station. We got on Green Line for a few stops, before getting off and transferring to the Orange Line that would take us to the stop nearest our hostel. Once there, we came back to the room for an hour or two - by this point it was probably about 7:00pm - before taking a short stroll across the street to 7-Eleven to pick up a little snack for tea. We both grabbed a 'Buffalo Chicken Roller', which was basically a stick of chicken shaped like a hotdog, with a spicy, breadcrumb coating. We took them back to the hostel, quickly stopping by the vending machine in the lobby to get a drink and a chocolate bar each. Before going back to the room, we talked to the lady at reception regarding booking us onto the 'Whale Watching' excursion that is organised by
the hostel, taking place on Thursday. We paid for the trip, then got in the elevator to our room.
Since then, we've pretty much chilled out - watching the sunset over Boston from our window - with nothing to do but relax, read and play on the netbook.
Today = Most. Relaxed. Day. Ever.
