Hale House
Hale Farm: Hale Farm, built in 1694 for John Hale, first minister of Beverly. The grounds originally extended to the ocean and the house reflects 18th and 19th century additions by Hale descendants. Friendly Garden Club Tour 2009
Despite the unseasonably cold and wet month, ten residential gardens in Beverly managed to thoroughly captivate an audience of a couple hundred gardening enthusiasts on June 27th as part of the Friendly Garden Tour. The Friendly Garden Club of Beverly and some very generous Beverly homeowners welcomed the public for a review of a variety of Beverly’s best gardens on what turned out to be one of the first few sunny summer days of 2009.
While some plants were somewhat seasonally delayed, all the gardens were in outstanding condition. The tour included English cottage-style gardens, woodland shade specimen collections, showy raised beds of annuals, pool-side oases, and examples of “perfect” perennial plantings, all of which offered a little something for everyone.
The hospitality provided by those who opened up their gardens was a key ingredient of the event. A commonly heard comment from tour-goers was how much they enjoyed meeting and speaking with the homeowners. The passionate and knowledgeable homeowners provided inspiration and excellent advice to those on the tour
