Departing the US

Shelley and I departed Hadley’s Point Camp Grounds yesterday. Taking Highway 3 into Ellsworth for some light shopping and supplies refresh before heading back into Canada.

We stopped in at TJ Maxx for a little shopping, then over to the LL Bean Factory Outlet. The Outlet was fantastic; Shelley liked that all the clothing was actually organized into sizing properly - nothing was just shoved together Willy-nilly for her to sort through. Refreshing.

I found some more clothing items and we even picked up a little flotation device for Maggie to wear when we are boating or kayaking.

Departing here, the directions took us up Highway 3 and had us turning right onto North Street. North Street, as it turns out, is “highway” 179 - a small two lane (one lane each direction) that sloped from the middle of the road down to the edge. The middle of the road was higher than the sides -even though our lane of travel was freshly paved! It was a maximum speed of 45 mph along this stretch, but with the wind and the rain, forget that. Shelley was half beside herself. It was a tough drive and uncomfortable. The RV rocked often from road dips and wind. I knew we’d be okay, but as a passenger, it’s not the most confident feeling ride.

We finally got to the turn for Airplane Road in Aurora, which is Highway 9 - MUCH better. A more wide and stable road to travel on. The rain and wind were still there; lots of rain - heavy amounts of it in fact.

We arrived in Calais and tried to find some Yuenling beer for a friend at work; no luck. They had it in Massachusetts, but not this far up north yet. Darn. The Duty Free America shop was next, and then the border.
