I'm about 12 days away from the biggest adventure of my life, Ghana! I'm excited and nervous, happy and anxious, man, I'm feeling the whole spectrum of emotions right now! But hey, that's all to be expected right? At any rate, I can't wait for this journey to begin, meeting new people, going new places, making new memories, are all right up my alley but I still have no idea just what to expect. The not knowing, the jumping into the unknown...that definitely makes everything ten times better! I'm mostly all packed up, giving my final farewells and holding onto my last few days in the states. Thanks to everyone who made this trip possible, I can't wait to get started. They say adventure is the pursuit of life; well I say, let the chase begin! ... read more

Posted by: Onaxthiel: I again found myself up before Obfuscator and D. this morning. I let them sleep for another few few hours before deciding that If we wanted to see anything in Manhattan, KS we needed to get moving. Luckily they both woke up easily, and we were able to drive out to the state nature preserve that D. uses to stay conditioned for running marathons. By reputation, Kansas is supposed to be a terribly flat place with tornadoes blowing through all the time. While there are many parts that match this description to a T, this particular piece of public property never seems to have gotten the memo. The bluffs are sizable enough to note on a walk, and the views of the area around are pleasant enough. A small river cuts through ... read more

Obfuscator writes: We woke up to a lot of frost in on our gear. This didn't really surprise me much, since by the time I had gone to bed the previous night, a fine layer of condensation had already settled on all my stuff. Frost is always a big nuisance, since it makes your stuff just damp enough that you have to dry them to avoid, well, general unpleasantness. I think I failed to mention in the last entry that we pulled into this campground at about 8:00 PM or so last night. When we did, we were sort of cruising around looking for a camp site we liked, since their payment envelopes wanted us to select a specific site. As we drove through the park, we were followed pretty much the whole way by some ... read more

. As you have probably realized we are back on the road again… But, with the events of the past week we are woefully behind on updating the Blog. So, in this episode, we will try and catch everyone up on what happened when the Blog temporarily dropped off the face of the earth! Our plan had been to travel to Connecticut for a long weekend; return to Kansas to take the dog to the vet in Wichita, catch up with some friends then resume The Odyssey… unfortunately, things didn’t go exactly according to plan. . It’s Monday morning and we have two days to get everything we have left in the house packed into a U-Haul trailer and all the paperwork signed so that the house can close on Wednesday. The weather looks like it is going to cooperate, we have the truck booked, and except for a few appointments our schedule is clear… So, as the Aussies say: “No Worries!” Not… Statistics Blog Time Frame: October 30th - November 1st Starting Destination: Kechi, Kansas Ending Destination: Saint George, Kansas Ending Destination GPS: Pending Miles Driven: 181! For the last 4-5 days we have been staying with Carl's Parents just outside of Manhattan, KS. If we thought that once we had left Kechi we were ready to "go," we were sadly mistaken... *Saturday - we packed up all the stuff that needed to go to climate controlled storage in Topeka. *Sunday - was Carl's families annual "reunion," much of the family lives in the Manhattan, KS area, but some arrived from California, Utah, Missouri, Colorado and even Cuba (well, he's not quite part of the family yet)! There was much talk along the vein of "I have alway's wanted to visit Australia - I will have to come and visit" or "take care of yourself and don't get into too much trouble." Our responses are always - "Come and visit, everyone is welcome ... read more

New Traveller joins Travelblog So I'm a little over a month away from going to Europe and I'm really excited. I just wanted to check out this blogging thing as it seems to be a good way to tell many people what is going on without spending all of my time on the phone in Europe. So, check back often, that is of course if you wanna know what's happenin' with Russell. I can't wait to graduate and go to Europe, and by the way, you should come with me ;)... read more

Hi there. I'm still getting ready to leave for China, my tickets aren't even booked yet, and I don't have my Chinese visa! I should have my tickets and visa in hand within the next two weeks, however. Right now we plan to leave the USA on July 27, and return on August 28. From there I move to North Carolina to continue my internship at Cisco Systems. I'm also excited about returning there too. At UIBE I'll primarily be learning how to speak Chinese, which is really exciting because I can use what I learned in the classroom immediately on the streets of Beijing. Of course when I go to Tibet it won't really help (they speak Tibetan), but I'll manage :). The photo you see in the upper-right corner is from when I was ... read more
