ARRIVING BACK IN THE USA:
After being back in the USA for 3 weeks now we have seen lots of family and friends, enjoyed hearing English all around and eaten LOTS of our favorite/missed foods. One will never understand how we can miss root beer, sub sandwiches, dill pickles, Mexican food and the ease of walking into a grocery store and having great food at your finger tips unless you have lived outside the USA for a long period of time.
We have been blessed by our families to have 2 parties to celebrate our homecoming and our upcoming marriage. I wish we had $1 every time someone asked us “Where will you live when you return?” and “What place did you travel to that was your favorite?”
Both questions are very hard as there are so many factors that go into them. Depending on the job market and housing market we would love to return to Portland so Pete can finally develop the land at his parents that he has been talking about since I met him in 2006. Next, I need to find a career that has good benefits so we can start to have children,
since we all know having a baby is not cheap paying for it without insurance. Lastly, our favorite place we traveled to hmmm… each place was unique in its own way and some places we got to see everything we wanted such as Vietnam 3 weeks was plenty of time to never have to return. Australia on the other hand 10 days was not enough to even see a portion of the country.
We are loving being back and are looking forward to our wedding in Santa Barbara. The goodbye’s never get easier as we told my brother, Aaron, goodbye today until we return to the USA in 2011. What month that will be we have no idea yet; our contract ends June 30, 2011 but we have lots of travel ideas in our minds.
I can say we have become pros at living out of a suitcase/backpack as we have been out of our apartment since the morning of Friday, June 4th. We fly back to China on Tuesday, August 24th and arrive in Shanghai, China on Wednesday, August 25th when we will move into our 2 bedroom/1 bath on campus apartment in Hangzhou.
We will
continue this blog and love all your support as without it we might not have survived our first year in China.
