Personally, I don't think that a government should be responsible for abiding by the committments that its predecessors made because they were living in a different time. You can't base what you're doing now off of what others did in the past. Everything is changing constantly. There are new ideas every second. If a government in the 21st century were to abid by those committments made in the 1800s, many, if not all, would disagree with it. No one today is in the same mindset as the people living back then. That's why it doesnt make any sense. People should be able to make their own committments as time goes on.
