Columbus Controversy

1. The Columbus Controversy is about how Americans celebrate Columbus Day, but many historians believe they should not. It's known that Columbus sailed through the ocean and discovered America, and that's why he is celebrated. However, many don't know that he was responsible for enslaving a lot of Natives and their deaths. Him and his men used the Natives in ways of extreme violence and brutality.

2. My reaction to these opinion is agreeing with them in a way. At the end of the article it states that some believe that Columbus should be taken out of school curricula. I don't agree with this entirely because he was still an important figure in history, so students should learn about him; however, they should be taught about all that he did wrong also.

3. This relates to what we are doing in class because we are lea bough about exploration and many important people in history and their explorations.
