School officials on Anaheim are tracking when seventh and eighth graders have more than four inexcusable absences in one school, then they are required to carry a GPS. Every morning an automatic phone call reminds them to go to school. That's not all, the students are assigned an adult coach who keeps track of the student three times a week to see how they are doing and help them with anything. The police argue that students, who keep slipping school regularly, are in a gang. Moreover, the system has been working because the attendance ha jumped from 77% up to 95%. I think the idea is good for junior high students to teach them how to be responsible; however, I don't think it should expand to high school students. High school students should not need a constant GPS tracking them because it does not teach the high school students responsibility. One might object that more high school students are willing to skip school than junior high students, but once there in college no one is going to track them on GPS to go to class. I think in the future if it expands to high schools, then more students are going to rely on a phone call to go to school. They would not be taught any responsibility.
