Meroe Africa
It is also known as the Kingdom of Kush which is divided into two periods. The first period is The Napatan period which lasted until 270 BC. The second period is The Meroitic period which existed toward the year 320 AD.
The ruling class in the kingdom of Kush was made up of people whose language became the written language of the Meroitic period, not the Egyptians as it was previously believed.
Development of royal tomb installations reveal that the social and cultural traditions of the ruling class were derived from the people of the upper Nile valley.
During the Meroitic period, cattle breeding became very important.
Meroe produced iron on a large scale and used it for agriculture and construction
Th minor arts developed and reached high levels of achievement
The elephant represented relief and sculpture
International trade did not pass though Meroe
Direct trade for Meroe was important for Egypt
Meroe exported gold, ivory,iron to Egypt
It also provided Egypt with slaves
Musawwarat es-Sufia was an area with temples surrounded by hills
It was an important center for pilgrims to celebrate the periodic festivals held for the local gods
The Meroitic script has a cursive and hieroglyphic form
It includes vowel notations
