The Zoo
Little Bear, swimming in a pool... We’ve been up since 3:30am to get back to LA… I LOVED Chicago, so am not too keen to leave this amazing city to head back to the Los Angeles… Everything was so neat, the structure of the city, the rail network, even the streets were immaculate, not what I had expected from Chicago at all. The people were amazing; they’d conjure up a conversation with us no matter where we were, as though we were their neighbours.
The weather wasn’t too bad, yet I still managed to get badly burnt? I very rarely get burnt, it’s a once in a 4 year occasion and of all places to get burnt it was Chicago.
Michael shopped a lot; I didn’t buy one thing, even though the shopping is really good. I’m not a fan of the American jock clothing style… 3 quarter pants are HIDENOUS, as are those dirty thick thongs Americans love so much, and they really like their polo shirts here… I want to find a place that has unique clothing, something like Paddington where no one else would have it, so when someone says “like your top”, I can reply “thanks, got it from Chicago”… great conversation starter.
The Zoo
The View from the hotel I may not like the fashion, but I absolutely love their clubbing scene here, talk about huge clubs, one particular club seemed to have room after room, show after show in all these hidden sections it never ended, I was super excited… And the parade we went to on Sunday was pretty cool too. The atmosphere was epic, so energetic and alive, so much love and respect for everyone… I am so surprised, I didn’t expect this at all from Americans!!!
I’ve done so much here, most of it alone. Michael, reminds me so much of my dad, holds his hands behind his back, walks slowly, off in his own docile world, wants to rest and spend most of the trip in the hotel watching TV or reading his book. Whereas, I like to wander, aimlessly and explore the city. I went up to the Western Hemisphere’s tallest tower, Willis Towers, paid just under 20 dollars, rush up to the top took a photo and rushed back down… That’s how I like to do things, fast and quick… my a.d.d kicked in… I also did a river cruise, and I learnt so much about the history and architecture of the
city, it was surprisingly interesting… of course I told Michael ALLL about the facts I had learnt straight after, much to his dismay… I feel sorry for him, being alone, with me. I never stop talking; I imagine his thoughts at times… Mickey Mouse driving a river boat, whistling and tapping his feet.
One more random thing, the maccas here tastes amazing; not processed rubbished like we have at home. You’d be very impressed to know we’ve only visited MickiDee’s once this week… in Chicago the restaurants are so beautiful, chairs are seated on the outside with beds of flowers everywhere around you, and nice neat outdoor tiles and lights, it almost feels like I am in Paris. The food here is very cheap, and the portions are very generous, Michael and I keep forgetting that we can actually share an entrée. Following the rule of, “if the restaurant is busy it must be good” is a great idea, we lined up at a placed called Gino’s, famous deep dish Chicago pizza. Michael described the pizza as a pie, and literally it’s what it looks like. Really nice, but we only had one each, considering we had deep fried cheese
as an entrée. And of course, because we couldn’t finish it, it had to be boxed (American’s love boxing the left overs), we felt so sick after a piece each; we threw our box out immediately. I wanted to give it to a homeless man, but was scared he wouldn’t eat it and think I was trying to poison him.
I now officially HATE American Airlines, they make Jetstar look like a 5 star airline. Why allow everyone to bring huge carry-on luggage when there is not enough room in your overhead compartments? And who do they think they are charging us for everything?!?!?
