Waikiki Beach
This Beach is a 5 minute walk from my new Hostel.
The Mountain you see in the background is an inactive Volcano called 'Diamond Head'. Hey there Folks! Hope you are all well back at home. I would say I'm missing everyone but it's a hard life tanning myself on Waikiki Beach! (Sorry... couldn't resist!).
Well it was an eventful trip over here to say the least. Trust me to be one of the few people to have a row with a passenger sitting next to me on the plane! I swear trouble follows me! :o) All was well until I got sat between two guys on the flight. The one on my right was an older guy... very polite and nice. The other one to my left was a complete pain in the backside. He was around my age, and for most of 5.5 hours he snored, open mouthed (facing my direction). He near enough dribbled on me. Well to say I wasn't impressed was an understatement! Every so often (when it all got too much) I'd elbow him whilst he was asleep so he'd at least stir slightly and then when he opened his eyes I'd turn and give him the 'Don't you even dream about snoring in my face look'..... so then like a gudden he'd turn in the other direction (for
Waikiki Beach
Very Nice eh?! at least a while). Anyway, we're coming into land and the nice older guy (lets call him Mr.Polite) sitting to my right starts chatting to me, or at least trying to because the guy (lets call him d1ckhead) on my left kept butting into the conversation!! Mr Polite would ask me a question and d1ckhead would answer it for me! Anyway d1ckhead asks me where I'm from and I tell him Birmingham UK. He then says real sarcastic "Isn't that place full of factories... like EVERYWHERE??!!". He said that's what everyone says about Birmingham... what a load of crap, I couldn't believe my ears.
Anyway he starts asking about the weather there and I told him summer was usually nice, winters were awful etc etc.... and then he says even more sarcastic "Summer... you mean ALL 2 days of it!!'
Well that was it..... I lost my rag. Maybe I was a little sensitive due to 5.5 hrs of his slobbering, snoring, dribbling and complete rudeness when Mr.Polite was trying to talk to me so I just asked him if he'd been to the UK and he said no, so I said, "Well if you've never been there, how the
hell can you judge what it's like?"... he was a bit opened mouthed at this point so to finish the conversation I said "Listen here, If you've got nothing nice to say about a place then shut the hell up and say nothing at all!'.
Deathly silence came... then a load of aplogies, but at that point he got the 'Talk to the Hand coz the face aint listening look.'
Mr.Polite had a grin on his face coz I knew d1ckhead was really getting to him too!.
Anyway, I thought that was my problems over after I'd got off the plane... until I got to the Hostel. I put my stuff in the room and went to get some food which I thought I'd eat in the Kitchen before bed. Got into the kitchen and there's 3 lovely big cockroaches waiting to say hello to me! Well you know what I'm like for bugs.... I absolutely sh1t myself!
I hardly slept that night and was outta there like a shot come daylight! I eventually found another hostel down the road and it's so much better there... very nice and lets just say 'bug free!'.
After all the shannanigans I'm finally
settled and I spent my second day doing a tour of the Island with a group from the Hostel and a tour guide. We went all round the Southest Coast and up through the middle of Oahu Island into the Rainforests and then up to the North Shore. They actually film LOST in the rainforests and use a beach up on the North Shore for all their beach scenes. It's such a beautiful place it's unreal. Such a vast change in scenery and in climate around the Island, and you'll get rain up in the forests which will clear by the time it gets to Waikiki Beach. It's so lush with lovely greenery (Jurassic Park was filmed here too so all those green mountain scenes are here to see).
Because Hawaii specialises in Pineaple growth (Del-Monte and DOLE pineapples) we stopped at the DOLE plantation whilst on the tour. In fact we stopped at all the lovely beaches and spent time there chilling out.
The North Shore beaches are the ones famous for pipeline surf (you know the MASSIVE waves you see in pictures where there's a little tiny guy on the surf board in the middle of a huge
30ft high wave! We didn't see any of those waves though as the season is Nov-Feb. They hold all the professional surf competitions during this time. We did stop on the North Shore for lunch and I had a the most amazing Mexican king prawn dishes... all the prawns were marinated in garlic and pepper...amazing! Yum Yum (Can you tell I'm hungry right now!!?)ha ha. Towards the end of the day we went to Sunset Beach and cut up a fresh pineapple and watched the sunset and played frisbee... very nice end to a nice day.
So then the last two days have been spent relaxing on Waikiki Beach and believe me the beach is stunning... all turqouise waters and lovely sand. The water ranges between 22 degrees Celsuis to 25C!! It's like being in the Caribbean, only probably nicer.
The shopping here is out of this world... god you could spend an absolute fortune! I'm really having to exercise some kind of 'Will Power'.... well.... almost.... ok I admit I bought 3 pictures for when I buy my new house (obviously after I've sold Clay Lane). I'm doing well though so we will see how long I exercise this
newly found 'Will Power!'.
Tomorrow I'm going swimming with the Dolphins at the Sealife Centre!!... How exciting!!! Can't wait. I don't think I can take pictures though as they do their own and sell them to you, but I'll see if I can get them scanned so I can put them online for ya. I'll try my best... so.... as usual, stay tuned for my next blog!
Take Care of yourselves and keep your messages coming... it's really great to hear from you all :o).

Dickhead on the plane
You write the greatest travel blogs! I just got back from 2 weeks in Spain with the specific aim of seeing Semana Santa (Eater week parades) in Lorca - check the amazing video at http://nuevastecnologias.lorca.es/semanasanta/ The weather was better in the UK than in Spain for the whole 2 weeks and events cancelled with no money back for tickets. Tell that to Dickhead on the plane! Ian
