Ocean entry and a road to nowhere. This shelf has previously been the site of a very active ocean entry, which ended several days before our ride. Notice the road on the right. The lava decided it should end, and it did!

Moonscape on earth. Lava completely obliterates everything. This stuff is new. Just wait a bit.

I imagine this represents the volcano apologizing. Sure, yet pretty.

Okay, told you it was new. This is just a bit away from the previous lava pictures. This is an active lava flow and two thousand degrees. It was a bit cool before, but not here; we felt the heat. Made a request for the pilot not to land.

Recall the caldera we photographed a couple of days ago. This is the edge of the crater. Notice the equipment measuring activity. We anticipated flying over the magma chamber, but the clouds precluded it. Shucks, no damn shucks.

Thin lava flows in this area. Took this as what happens here is akin to a slow moving fire. This guy was lucky and kept his house. A ton of folks were not.

These are breath-taking-can only imagine how beautiful looking out the helicopter at each location must have been. Just happy you hung on tightly and didn't fall out the open no-doors area. Thanks for sharing!!! Have fun at the new island!!
