October 28- October 31 I worked from the RV. The view from my office is beautiful. Autumn in North Carolina cannot be beat. On Thursday, Halloween, it was rainy, dark, windy and just spooky! By the end of the day, the rain stopped. I was happy about that for the trick or treaters. We went out to our usual Thursday dinner at Avenue M. I thought it would be crowded, but it wasn't. The employees were dressed up for Halloween. Our server, Sarah was dressed for 'Breast Cancer Awareness'. She had put two big pink balloons in her low cut shirt...wow! Another girl was walking around with a clear plastic bag around her, filled with multicolor balloons. They had a contest-you had to guess how many balloons were in her plastic bag. I guessed 54, Ken guessed 36. We found out later, there were 38; Ken was close. We had our usual-scallops and salad. It was fun seeing the families come in and the little ones dressed up. On Friday, it was time to say goodbye to North Carolina. 😞 We won't see Lola again until we pick her up to fly back to Jason's for Christmas. And depending on if
my contract gets extended, we may not be back for a long time. I am feeling a bit blue as we drive towards Atlanta. The plan is to stay in Stone Mountain near Atlanta for my work on site this week. Then on Friday morning, we are heading west, driving our RV back home. Then I will work remote every other week, and fly to Atlanta for my on site week. We have a tentative driving route. I do NOT want to drive through Texas again...so we are going to head up to St. Louis and then take I-70 through Denver, Utah and then pick up I-15 to head to Las Vegas. We want to stop and see Jason and Amy before heading to Tucson. Thank goodness for technology. With my 4G I can work on the road. We should be in Vegas by Tuesday (Wednesday at the lastest). Then I will fly to Atlanta from Vegas. I'm excited to get on the road again. I'm also excited about being back in Tucson. But I'm also worried that I will get antsy for the 'road' again. We'll just see...take one day at a time. If I don't get extended past
December 20 in Atlanta...who knows where I will end up.
On Friday, we arrived at Stone Mountain State Park. It's a convenient place to stay while working here in Atlanta. It will take about 25 minutes in the morning to get to work. We set up camp and and then head to Krogers to pick up a Rotisserie Chicken and some green beans for dinner. Ken built a fire and we ate outside. The park is filling up and we watch the people as they set up their camps. We can see a group of tenters. Oh my- that is so much work. They arrived in the dark and spent a good 2 hours setting up. There is a young girl (maybe 17-19) with them and she is not helping. In fact, she keeps going in the truck and sits there talking on her phone. After dinner, Ken and I take a walk around the park. It looks so festive with all the campers fires, lanterns and strung lights reflecting off the lake. You can hear kids laughing and playing, dogs barking and a train in the distance. We sat by the fire a while and enjoyed the evening.
Saturday after breakfast, we went hiking in the park. It's another beautiful day. We have been fortunate with a perfect autumn. On our hike we saw a huge hornets nest and a wild turkey in a tree. Afterwards we went shopping at Whole Foods and Krogers. Dinner was grilled shrimp and steamed cauliflower. Another beautiful evening. On Sunday, after breakfast, Ken went to Harbour Freight to buy a new generator. He sold ours to the maintenance worker at the campground in Asheville. It was 3+ years old and the guy wanted one...so we upgraded. I'm relaxing...plan to take another hike when he returns.
We took another hike. This one took us around the lake, over a covered bridge. I'm going to make some Turkey chili for dinner.
