Max.
Trying to get Max up in the morning is hard. Sorry this is a day late! I had technical difficulties trying to load the pictures, but it's all worked out now!
These past two nights have shown no further ghost activities! Well, probably because I didn't sleep yesterday night (I was too scared haha). However, I slept soundly last night with no interruption. Maybe the Inn is haunted, I don't know, but I would definitely stay there again. It was beautiful and in a great location. The added bonus of possible ghostly encounters makes it all the more appealing to me!
So, to start off our day, the weather was wonderful. It was warm with a slight river breeze. We decided to take the little water taxi (which the city provides for free) down to the end of River Walk so we could eat lunch at this place called The Pirates House! It is supposedly haunted by ghosts of the pirates that used to stay in the area. The site contains one of the oldest structures (1734 I believe) and is a shop and southern country buffet.
The tour we took yesterday told us how there are underground tunnels that connect the Pirate House to the middle of
Pretty building.
I'm just obsessed with all the cool buildings there. River Walk. Pirates would get someone super drunk and once they passed out, they would drag them through the tunnels to the river. The next day, the poor fool finds himself on a ship headed for China!
Anyways, the lunch buffet was sooooo delicious! Mom stuffed her face for real! She was the first one to finish her first plate! We had fried chicken, homemade buttermilk mashed potatoes with gravy, homemade macaroni and cheese, lima beans, collard greens, squash, BBQ pulled pork, fried fish, Savannah red rice, cornbread, green beans, shrimp creole, and more! For dessert we had pecan pie squares, which were so good! The lunch was one of the best buffets ever! After we were are full, we decided to walk around some of the squares we didn't get to the day before.
We passed a lot of houses we saw on the tour, including the one where the first exorcism was performed in the state of Georgia! We saw the prettiest structures! It reminded me of an older Key West with all the Bed and Breakfasts and stuff. I navigated everyone to the Colonial Park Cemetery, where we got to go in and read all
Hole.
This area is soooo ancient looking. Now it serves as a parking lot haha! the gravestones! It was really interesting. There was this horrible yellow fever epidemic and many of the people buried there are between 6 months and 21 years old! It really feels amazing when I read the old gravestones--like I'm remembering a specific part of history!
After the cemetery, we went inside the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. It was absolutely breathtaking. It was by far one of the most magnificent churches I've been to. Mom loved every minute of being in there. She even bought a postcard from them! We then decided to head over to the Old Sorrel-Weed House again to check out what it looked like from the inside. On the way there, we stopped in this adorable book shop where I bought the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. Every gift shop in Savannah sells these books by the bucket load. I thought I should jump on the bandwagon and buy one for myself. Now when the book mentions specific parts of Savannah, I will have a mental image of it!
I dragged the family to the far side of the Historic District because I really wanted to take pictures of
the fountain in Forsyth Park. It was really pretty. It was modeled after a fountain in Paris. The park was really neat. Artists painted on the easels around the fountain and everyone had their dogs with them. There was also this huge Confederate monument, which I thought was really interesting. Since the Union won the Civil War, you don't ever think about having a Confederate memorial, but it was really interesting.
By this time, everyone was super tired and thirsty, so we stopped in a little hole in the wall British Pub called the Six Pence Pub. We had drinks then walked back to the Inn for some much needed rest. At around 6:30, we decided to go to dinner at the restaurant Paula Deen's uncle or brother or some relative co-owns with her called Uncle Bubba's Oyster House. We needed the car to drive there. On the way mom took a wrong turn and we ended up driving off into the pitchblack Savannah forest! Of course Dad had to mention Friday the 13th and make us all paranoid. We ended up making it to the restaurant in one piece and had dinner. It was soooo delicious! We had
River Walk.
Here is River Walk during the day! So weird looking. these chargrilled oysters for an appetizer, and let me tell you, they were mouthwatering good! I ended up having blackened shrimp with cole slaw and Savannah red rice. Mmmm!
That night I went and watched ghost TV shows in mom and dad's room while Max napped and watched TV. The pretty much concludes our last day of Savannah! The trip was really fun and interesting. The food stole the show though! The only horrible thing about the city is there are SOOOO MANY panhandlers and cracked out freaks walking the streets at night. They won't leave you alone!
So anyways, thanks for reading all about my trip and hopefully I can make another one of these for the next vacation I go on. Until then, I love and miss you all! <3 Alison
PS: Mom took some pictures with her camera as well. I'll try to put a blog together with those pictures. I'll e-mail you when I do!
