It is 9:00 AM here in Georgia and I am just about to be picked up by my friend Brittney to go to the airport! She is also going on the trip and will stay in the room with me and two other girls from my cohort, Chastity and Sara. I am excited beyond words to be going, but I am also nervous about the flight! I'm sure everyone reading this is thinking, "You will be alright!" However, that seems like a foreign/abstract concept for me at the moment! I'm packing my bags for Norway as we speak! I leave on Friday, and here is the itinerary: Leave Atlanta at 1pm, go to Washington D.C., go to Copenhagen, Denmark, and then go to Oslo Norway. American Civil War was over for more than 150 years, but the spirit behind the history and what it stands for the people here in the south are still alive in Confederate states. Even though Atlanta is considered as a melting pot modern city, it still located in the Deep South; lots of Yankees have moved into the South, Confederates are still lurking around and live by what they believe. Last week, my co-worker Nathan mentioned about the annual civil war re-enactment event in Conyers, GA, where he lives. The event is, of course, a Deep South customed, with no where else in the world this would be done (except maybe in Gettysburg, PA). People are coming from all over the nation, most of them are to become re-enactments, an opportunity to live in history. The ... read more
