Manatee Springs SP
springs and cypress trees We left St. Augustine and drove through Palatka, Gainesville and Chiefland on our way to Manatee Springs SP. It's a pretty park, lots of trees and we were greeted by two small deer in the campground. The springs were not as colorful as those at Rainbow Springs, but they had a nice boardwalk than ran down the spring run to the Suwannee River. We saw lots of alligator gar in the spring run and the Suwannee River was high due to recent rains. We saw no manatees.
Thursday morning we headed to St. George Island after stopping in Perry to get my prescriptions refilled. St. George Island was quite beautiful with white sand beaches and wonderful dunes. Again the gorgeous beach was mostly deserted. The temperature was quite pleasant in the afternoon, but got cool in the evening, dropping to around 45 when we went to bed. By this morning the clouds had moved in, we had a few sprinkles of rain and the temp had risen to 55. The clouds had mostly cleared by the time we were ready to move out and the temp was around 60. We're heading to St. Joseph Peninsula again, one of our favorites.
