28 today clear blue skies .. Beautiful !
Today we have just 4 hours to check out the sights of Miami before heading further south to Miami International for the flight to Washington DC (via New York - Newark airport)
Up @07:00 and all packed and ready to depart at lunch time. So it's time to grab a cab and first stop Miami beach to take In the.atmosphere and have breakfast. Had a great breakfast (see the evidence) only $8.95 each but after coffee & smoothies & attendance fees it cost all up $76 so will be careful next time! They even offered Mojitos here for breakfast (see photo). Walked down beachside boulevard before hailing a cab.
On the way back to the hotel we had the cabbie take us through "Little Havana" where we saw a very different style of architecture and local Cubans at their favourite competitive pastime - Dominos.
Packed the rental car and off we went to the airport straight to the Hertz return area. We were delighted when the attendant offered to take us right to the departure area as we had so many bags and two small delightful children.
We were able to check in curb
side but not before having to re-arrange the contents of two bags due to excessive weight......surprising isn't it? Four of the bags were over 50lbs (the limit) and one was 59lbs. Very nice guy who said once we rearranged bags all was good, no extra charges (in fact no charges at all) and checked us in with Priority Access....pays to be nice! Gave him a decent tip and he appreciated it. Nice!
Boarding passes for both flights now in hand we are off to the Central terminal, gate G16.......
In the airport we had coffee (had another great coffee at Starbucks) and the kids had lunch (left over dinner in fact from last night) through security but not before having all bags checked because we were each carrying water.
Waiting in the boarding queue I thought I had seen everything until now, glancing to my left I see a white miniature poodle in its own Carry-on bag... Fully ventilated. (See photo) we then boarded UA1077 for Newark albeit running about 60 minutes late. Tripit was good because it alerted us to this change prior to getting to airport and kept updating. Strongly recommend this App
Now we are up and away on our
Boeing B737-800. See the aerial shot from seat 32E... Very turbulent flight !
More if and when we land in Newark... Need to hang on now!!!!
Landed in Newark 17:58pm (just 30 minutes behind schedule) and hastily made our way to terminal B gate C103 to board UA 3897 with boarding closing at 18:06pm only to find the flight delayed till 20:47pm. Getting very tired as we wait here at Newark, appears to be raining outside. Now at 20:20pm they have announced the flight has been cancelled so it doesn't look like we will get there tonight, now waiting in customer nil service queue.
Met a nice guy (Owen Franken) in the queue from Paris who made a lot of noise with the customer service agents and organised United to get us all on Amtrak for Washington leaving at 22:30pm and arriving 01:30am
Only problem bags won't be delivered to Washington Hilton till late Monday, let's now see how a claim goes with CoverMore Insurance. Thank goodness the policy is in my carry-on luggage
So much for the nice upgrade to first class seats on this cancelled flight
Finally hit the sack at 02:15am very tired!
