It has been quite a while.......
Just after our last post visitors starting coming down the coast. Friends from our yacht club in Montreal have condos in Fort Pierce and come to stay in November and December, and both Makasi from RSTLYC and One Life who used to be at the club as well passed by on their way south. We also had a visit with friends from work whom we had not seen in a while...from Toronto and Oklahoma. T&TKiss from RSTLYC pulled in for a months stay in our marina around the same time. It was great to see everyone! A crazy few weeks for us.
We went home for Christmas this year, the first time in a few years. It was a perfect drive home with no weather issues. We went to stay up on the mountaintop and I am happy we did- we were lucky to have unusually warm weather while we were there but that meant that Montreal had pretty much no snow. That would not have worked for me! I am happy the mountain was white. When we arrived there was a mini ice storm and the trees were thickly covered. When the
sun finally did come out, the view was absolutely spectacular. Sadly although there was snow, there was not enough to do any cross country skiing, snow-shoeing or skidooing. Even the alpine skiing was not at its best with only about half the runs open. Near the end of our stay the rain set in and the winter wonderland disappeared.... when we left there was still snow but it was going away fast. We had a wonderful time with family and I got some Christmas spirit back this year!
We also have a new crew member on Caribee. Smokey the Sailor was no longer able to stay in his home of the past three years, and at seventeen and a half I thought the best thing would be to take him back with us. He didn't make the trip with us originally three years ago because we had intended to do day charters and his "stick to the humans at all times" personality was not a good plan. Now he sleeps more often and can jump less high, and we are not currently chartering so he is happily settling in with us. So much for leaving everything wide open at
night!
We arrived back in Fort Pierce Dec 27th and picked up our friend Mike the next day for his stay with us. Kelly and Ed came to visit just before New Year's and we all took Caribee our for a sail. Happy Day! We all spent New Year's Eve together at the Driftwood Inn in Vero Beach. Our friends Tom and Linda from Watson Lake Yukon were also here, as well as Derek and Sue from NB. Peter and Rachel came back from Montreal too, and will continue on their journey south this coming Monday. It has been very busy for us, but a lot of fun. We did manage to get the deck cleaned and sanded before leaving for Montreal, and we after much debating we have just oiled the coach deck, chain lockers and back stairs. It looks great, we'll see how it works out. We decided there was too much water getting underneath (it is not structural teak) to try varnish or Cetol again without some major repairs.
Now that things are a little more quiet we are going to get back to our list of things to do and we hope to leave
the dock for a bit. No solid plans on where we will go yet. We still have the issue with the outboard- the shop which was supposed to recreate our broken part has apparently lost the piece. We will take the whole motor in to an outboard specialist and see what our options are, because if we plan to be out at anchor we need our "car"! The leaking windows are fine now after I recaulked them, so that's good news. We will replace the diesel gauge I broke last year and replace the diesel lines, do a few of the more important things on our list, and check all our systems. Even if we just go anchor out close to here for now it will be nice to get away from the dock for a little bit. We still have not really stuck to our plan of working half the day and relaxing for the rest- we have to work on that. But life is good.
Talk to you soon

Our best from VA
It is so good hearing from you! Roger and I are doing a tall ship cruise from Barbados to St Lucia in Fed. He has been active in Typhoon racing locally. All is well. You always have a place at our dock! Sarah
