Anne and I started our hiking trips back in 2001 and have managed to get two or three trips in each year since. Most of the trips were part of our quest to hike in all of the US National Parks, a quest we completed in 2015 with our trip to Alaska and the Gates of the Arctic and Kobuk Valley parks. At that time there were 59 parks. Since 2015 we have revisited some of our favorite areas and those have been blogged as well. Taken from an overlook along Trail Ridge Road just east of the Visitor Center. Mt. Ida is the peak right in the middle of the picture. The trail to the top runs from right to left. Looks like a gradual incline - but it isn't!

The Colorado River

The headwaters of the Colorado River. It gets a bit larger further downstream.

The Continental Divide Trail

Ptarmigan along the Mt Ida Trail.

There are three birds in this picture. Two are fairly easy to spot standing on patches of snow. The third is just right of center below a large rock.

Elk

This female elk was grazing right at the side of the road as we drove back to Grand Lake after our hike. Note the tracking collar.

Elk Herd

A bit further down the road we saw this herd of elk grazing in a meadow along the Colorado River's Kawuneeche valley
