Hey everyone We are already home in Calgary but thought I would write one more log for our weekend in SF. Did some touristy things, but first things first, went to the North Face outlet in Berkely (took the light rail then a bus) but unfortunately they were weak in the clearance dept. However I bought some quick dry shirts for cheap for working out and hiking. Went to the Royal Robbins outlet and bought some clothes there, but no cheap down jackets anywhere to be seen.... Diane, I'm sure that we went by your old house (was it 1825, on the bus route??) Great memories from my last visit, but we took it easy. We were so tired after being awake essentially 24 hours that we fell asleep on the train back, had a nap, ... read more

Hey folks, Here we are - our final spot in the 2 weeks of the US of A. We opted for the money saving option of travelling overnight on the greyhound from San Francisco to Hollywood. Fortunately this time we foudn a seat by the emergency exit, which meant extra leg room...and that was about it really. The journey took a dooable 8 hours, during which we had a stop at a Burger King, in the middle of nowhere. Had to make a loo stop so followed the other bus dwellers into the BK and foudn the restrooms. And then I went back to the bus. Some people, on the other hand, thought it a good plan to have a BK whopper meal at 3am in the morning. Now, I was hungry at this time, but ... read more

Well on 28/01, we flew into Los Angeles from Vancouver and met up with Az as planned (except we were given separate rooms and we thought Az was missing in action) But he stumbled upon us on the street of downtown LA. That night we headed to Hollywood... What a fake and over-rated place that is. In fact the best part about it was Hooters. The day after we headed to Long Beach and saw the Queen Mary But generally it's ordinary, then onto Santa Monica (after we worked out the stupid public transport system, In LA, stations are based on street names not places!!) and had dinner on the end of pier. Santa Monica is a really nice place. The following day we "experienced" Universal Studios which is, about as fake as Hollywood. Funny that ... read more

So, I'm about to buy a car. Actually, I don't even have a driverslicense yet. I did my DMV test last wednesday, but I failed. My last driving lesson that I had, I was driving when it was dark outside. At one point when I was making a right turn, I drove up on the curb with my rear tire. I couldn't see the goddamn curb, there was no lights there so I couldn't see anything in the mirror. So anyway, my instructor told me that if I did that at the DMV, they would fail me immediately. But she said she wasn't worried because I'd never done that before. So, we went to the DMV on wednesday. I me the guy that was going to test me. And the first thing I do, is drive ... read more

Yeah, so like we're like, totally into San Francisco, Dudes. It's super cool and we've had some like, awesome times. I mean like, totally. OK, that's enough. We are still in San Francisco and loving it - it's a great city but it's more like a lot of different communities that happen to really, really close to each other. We're staying close to Chinatown which is just a short walk from North Beach and the Bay Area. It's all very urban and chic. Our hostel is brilliant - it's nice to be staying somewhere for more than a night or two cause you can get to know people better and being right in the middle of the city is great for our night life - San Fran has a great music and 'chillin' scene and we've ... read more

Hey folks, Well, we survived the bus...all 12.5 hours of it. Managed to get a bit of sleep, despite it being totally freezing for the whole journey. Arrived around lunchtime and decided it wasn't too far to the hostel, so we'd walk it, complete with rucksacks and all. Fortunately we didn't have to hike up any of the notoriously steep hills to get there, but did have to negotiate 6 flights of stairs once we'd arrived: the sedatary commute of the last 6 months seems a distant memory! Having showered and eaten, we headed for the harbour to check out the Alcatraz tour times for tomorrow. Managed to stop a couple of times on the way, once for a quick look around a magnificent Catholic Cathedral, and a second for a devine brownie and coffee. Timed ... read more

So, the bus was fun. All 8 hours of it. Arrived in San Diego about 8.30 and went straight to our hostel at Ocean Beach - much livelier (and in a slightly less dodgy 'hood') than the one in Las Vegas - and only about 200 metres from the Pacific Ocean. Hence, Ocean Beach. Met our ker-azy roommate Candice as soon as we walked in the room, she was busy rolling spliffs for her big night out. We didn't see much more of her, although she does a pretty mean english accent which she'd learnt from Monty Python films. Excellent! First night we checked out the local burger joint, Hodads across the road - the hostel was on the main street so bars and restaurants were on our doorstep, none of this catching a bus into ... read more

Wow San Francisco is amazing! and we got to see quite a bit of it because when we arrived at 9 o'clock on Friday night a couple of very tired boys, we took about 50 wrong turns on the crazy highway system they've got going on there and it took us 4hours and few laps of San Francisco, San Jose and Oakland to finally find my friends brother who was too drunk to come and find us... Huge welcome to San Fran party that night with Seth and a few of his friends and nieghbours, then we spent the next couple of days recovering at Chantal and Matts converted wharehouse flat with their tattoo artist flatemates and their pet snake and Chinchilla(aka - Killer Chilla). Also got to watch the sunset glow light up the Golden ... read more

Well picked up Dan Keys from Lax on thursday arvo and and it's been a pretty crazy couple of days since then. First we boosted staight down to a deserted Venice beach to try and check out some freaks but apparently they don't like the cold weather, so after a quick stroll around down town Santa Monica we cruised back to the lovely Susan Mathis's place to get ready for dinner. We ate with some more of her Lawyer friends at an Italian BYO resturant and then went out for a few drinks at a cool underground bar. The next day was jammed with a nice sleep-in, followed by Rodeo drive, Beverly Hills, Hollywood and the Sunset Boulevard before we stumbled across UCLA (the LA University). That place is freakin awesome!!! And what made it even ... read more
