Redwoods skyward
This is all you see when you look up in the sky! LOL Day two is actually our first full travel day. And what a travel day it was! We wear on the road by 6:15 am, and headed south to Redwood Highway, just below Grants Pass. It was very foggy and the gorgeous view of Mt Hood wasn't even close to being visible! I'm glad we got that one pic on the flight. The drive was great, scenery was lovely, even with the clouds... spilling over the hills... the further south we got, the more it cleared up. When we hit the Redwood Highway, we enjoyed the change of scenery and knew we were headed to the places we were so excited to see. While driving on the highway, we came across this Bigfoot Cavern Bar and Grill which was next to this business called It's a Burl. http://itsaburl.com/ which had the most amazing things to look at. Then it was off to Crescent City, when we'd see the Pacific Ocean... Such a gorgeous day! We saw some amazing beaches, got out and stretched a bit, took pics... and back on the road to see some Redwoods. We took the Newton B Drury parkway off of Hwy 1 and then later drove the
Redwood Forest
Beautiful forest Avenue of the Giants. Beaches and Eureka were passed between.
Along the drive we saw signs for Elk and then got to the pasture and nothing... we saw a sign "Elk Information" and that got us all going... I guess all that time in a car and we started to get goofy... doing our own imitations of a moose that would be running a radio show... something along the lines (and in full moose voices, of course) of... "Hello travelers, well, I'm Miles the Moose and the information you are looking for is that I'm not out in the pasture with my friends... but rather inland a bit presenting you this information show"... and we had guests pop in and it just made us all laugh... a highlight of the trip! LOL By the time we got to the Avenue of the Giants, we really weren't paying attention to the time, as it was still light out, but we passed through so late that we couldn't stop for souveniers (saves money, I suppose)... We did see the Immortal Tree, the Founders' Tree, drove through the Shrine tree (which was hilarious...) It was like a minute's ride through, yet in
River near the Ave of the Giants
Such a beautiful site to see as we are driving along the Avenue of the Giants. a rental, I was completely freaked we'd hit a mirror or something.
We had another couple of hours before we got to my cousin, Rita's house in Redwood Valley. We got there at 10:30 pm. LONG day! But, at the end of it, Ivan and I looked at each other and thought... "Wow, we already took someone's vacation and this is our first real day of travel with about 12 more!" It was a great feeling!
