Hi guys, I'm back again for another quick update. After leaving the Skordas's per my last blog I went on to spend a few extra days in downtown San Francisco. It's always been one of those places you hear about from other people (with never a bad comment either I might add) so I thought it was worth a look around. Unfortunately though, I didn't find a flower for my hair though... maybe next time hey!!
Luckily I also had a good friend in town called "Terri" (that I met months ago back in Thailand) which was great as she showed me around and basically gave me a personal tour of the city for a few days. It really does make such a difference when you know someone who lives there.. you see a whole other side. When I was there the weather was great and the sun was shining too which apparently doesn't happen all the time so lucky me! But man the walking... all those hills.. whew! Its a small city and it is very walkable but by the end of the day your certainly ready for a rest after going up and down all those hills. You'll
see what I mean if you have a look at some of the photos.
Now I think if I ever had to live in the US for a while, San Fran would definitely be on my short list. It seems to have a little bit of everything going for it. Its has great places to eat and go out, easy access around the city, great views out onto the bay/ocean, a good lifestyle and a vibrant business community. The other two draw cards it has going for it is the mighty Alcatraz and the beautiful Golden Gate Bridge. Both are a must see if your in town.
Oh and they have all the old school tram cars too like in Melb going up and down the streets. In fact I even saw a original green and gold painted up Melbourne tram in town fully operational and cruising down the street. They must have imported it or something as it was the real deal.. I had to take a second look to make sure I wasn't seeing things... go tourism Australia!
I can also personally recommend the Hog Island Oyster Bay down near the water, Bubba Gump Shrimp
Restaurant (as in the movie, Forest Gump) and a good look around the various parks in town. All in all I only really had a couple of days there so whilst I did a lot, I'm sure there's also more to see in town... maybe next time.
And one last quick travel story that was amazing. I met this cool guy called Adam from the UK about 4 months ago for like half a day in Langkawi (Malaysia) just as I was leaving. Anyway I was literally walking down the street one night at about 10pm and no joke, I walked pass him whilst crossing the street in San Fran. It was crazy! He was in town with his girlfriend for a few days on holiday and flying back to the UK the next morning, if I had of been half and hour earlier or later I would never have seen him. Turns out he was actually staying at the some hostel .. can you believe it. Its crazy how these things just happen sometimes... and makes me wonder who else i've missed before or is just around the next corner. Needless to say we went out and had
a few drinks.... it was like catching up with a really good mate and really I had only just met him..
Hope your all well and for those of you heading towards winter! haha. Bad luck! The Sun is shinning here and I'm off to do some more sight seeing!
Cheers,
Natedog
