Chasing Waterfalls In Yosemite

Following King's Canyon, we successfully took another chance on finding some digs in Fresno. The next morning, we set off for our last National Park stop - reputedy the jewel in the crown - in the US, Yosemite. It was a really scenic drive up and into the canyon's valley where we eventually parked up to take a look at Yosemite Falls, the highest falls in the states. It was some anti-climax when we discovered that the falls are seasonal which meant that all we were able to witness was a weary looking trickle of water edging over the lip of a giant granite monolith.

Since we don't have the luxury of waiting around Yosemite until October to see some real rivers gushing over the falls, we opted to take up a hike deeper into Yosemite NP, thats based on a couple of other (year-round) falls. This hike turned out to be a real beauty but with the sun out , was very hard going. By the time we made it to the top of the steep stone staircase to the top of the first waterfall, we were both pretty goosed. Nevertheless, we took a rest then gruelled steeply onwards
and upwards to the higher Nevada Falls. Once we made it to the top, the sore thighs were momentarily forgotten as we stood at the crest of a river as it turned into the Nevada Falls to free-fall down to the valley surface and snake away under the forest canopy.

After the 2,000ft decent and 8km walk to the base of the trail, we were jaked. I don't know why, but I ended up feeling inclined to jog back to the car - think the sun is going to my head!

Farewell and thank you, National Parks of America!
