The 11:50am, Capitol Corridor from Emeryville San Francisco to San Jose
Hey Guys, after a week in San Francisco we decided it was about time to move on so we've travelled three hours down the coast to the legendary Santa Cruz. It was here that surfing began and even today Santa Cruz is a mecca for surfers all over the globe.

We travelled by train from San Francisco to San Jose then changed to a local bus for the hour-long drive to the coast. Santa Cruz is the ultimate seaside destination, even though we've arrived out of season when most places are closed it is still warm and there are surfers in the bay.

Upon our arrival the town seemed deserted, as all the surf shops were closed as well as the large theme-park styled boardwalk. However Santa Cruz is also a university town with the University of California so there are plenty of students around.

The town is as chilled out as possible, infact if Santa Cruz was any more laid back it would be horizontal. This morning we explored the along the coast, past the boardwalk (closed), past the surfing museum (closed), to Carmel. This afternoon we spent most of our time taking it easy in one

The surf at Santa Cruz, not particullarly impressive but we have come at the only time during the year when there is no surf!!
of Santa Cruz's many coffee houses and exploring what else Santa Cruz has to offer.

I'm going to spend this weekend chilling out and taking it as easy as possible. Perhaps we'll get around to renting some surfboards and attempt some surfing. Well it would be rude to come to Santa Cruz and not Surf!!
