We arrived around 10:30 last night and were thrilled to have a great place to sleep – THANK YOU MICHAEL!! Buddy, Michael’s dog, made quick friends with everyone and he and Freddy chased each other around the living room. We got to see some real, live black widows, too!

Not a very early start today - we drove to San Francisco this morning – about 1.5 hrs. It was 100-deg in Sacramento, but dropped as low as 58-deg by the time we reached San Francisco. The Golden Gate Bridge was fogged in the first time over it. Very wild, since it was so clear before reaching the bridge! We drove the city and it was blue and clear except over the water where it was hazy and foggy. We drove through the Golden Gate park and saw the bison. They were much smaller than the ones in Yellowstone and were a bit more smelly. The park itself was really nice – kind of like a central park – lots of trails and a pond with paddle boats. They had a botanical garden, but we were out of time so didn’t go through. We drove over to Lombard street

In San Fran so it was a bit cold!
to see the curvy road – WOW! It’s a beautiful street with foliage all down it – gorgeous flowers all in bloom. We could see Alcatraz from the top of the hill. We wanted to take the tour, but didn’t have the half day to devote to it so passed. We drove down Lombard Street and headed to Fisherman’s Warf. A little souvenir shopping an then grabbed a bit to eat at Cioppinos. Great clam chowder and sour dough bread! Michael found the Maritime Museum so we walked over to get the stamps for the kid’s National Park passports. Walked the piers, saw some neat old boats/ships and lots of shops. A great day in San Francisco and the weather was fantastic. It warmed up to about 70 with a bit of a breeze, but very comfortable. Did end up getting some shots of Golden Gate Bridge, but it was never fully clear. Headed back to Sacramento with a stop for ice cream on the way. Thanks, Michael, for a great trip in to the city!

All I could think of (for those of you old enough!) is Rice-a-Roni the San Francisco treat! Didn't get to ride them, though.
