As we got close to San Francisco it was so incredibly exciting because the sun was out there was not a cloud in the sky and after living in the Bay Area the majority of my life, I know better than to take weather like that for granted. After living in Washington State and in South Carolina I have come to realize that the Pacific Ocean along the California Coast is the most spectacular coast that there is. I would tell anyone and everyone who is driving down to California from Oregon or Washington to take the time to cut over to highway 1 and see the view.
We were able to spend some time in San Francisco and in Redwood City while we were in California. Since that is where the majority of my family lives it was great to be in the Bay Area and spend time with them. We woke up pretty early the next day to make sure we hit a minus tide and were able to see the tide pools. We made a special effort to go to Fitzgerald Marine Reserve which is at Moss Beach. This is a fantastic area to visit to
see tide pools and the local marine life. I used to go here almost every weekend with my mom when I was a little girl. It is a great place to get really close to the water and explore the pools. We were lucky enough to see seals playing in the waves. All around a great marine reserve. They have a great website if you are looking to find out more information http://www.fitzgeraldreserve.org/
After we left Fitzgerald Marine Reserve we went into Half Moon Bay on Main Street looking for some place to grab breakfast. We also went into the Half Moon Bay Feed store, where I bought rabbits as a kid, and it still has adorable rabbits for sale. It is amazing how nothing changes, and it is just the same as it was 20 years earlier. We grabbed some breakfast at the Half Moon Bay Coffee Company. I believe that is what is called, the food was amazing. It is right as you drive onto Main Street.
We were also able to go into San Francisco to visit my cousin Carrie, her husband Patrick and their baby Zach. It was such a wonderful time in San
Chris and Erin
It was hard to find someone to capture this pic, so we improvised, good thing Chris has long arms. Francisco; they took us to an amazing restaurant called Fresca in Noe Valley. The food is Peruvian, neither Chris nor I had ever had Peruvian food, so we thought it would be quite exciting. My cousin Carrie has a wonderful taste for excellent food; in fact I have never had a bad meal with her. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to have a fabulous meal. www.frescasf.com is where you can get directions and menu listings.
After leaving my cousins house we went for a driving tour of SF. I unfortunately could not remember or did not know all of the history about San Fran that I should have, so I left Chris wanting to know more information about the different areas that we were driving through. We went down Lombard Street, which really scared the you know what out of me, because there was a huge line up of cars and they were very close to the bumper. The cars were rolling and lurching up and down the hills on the way to the top of Lombard St. Once we got going on the street it was so much fun to actually drive through
it, we even captured some fun pictures. We also stopped at Crissy Field to get some great views of the Golden Gate Bridge.
The next day we went to Pier 39 and watched the seals sun themselves on the pier. We caught fantastic views of Alcatraz, however, we refused to spend the money and wait in line to go see the renowned jail. As a California resident for 18 years I have never been to Alcatraz, I suppose at sometime I will actually have to go out there. One of the most enjoyable parts of the day was at Pier 39, there are little booths called "The Pearl Factory" where you can choose an oyster and they open it for you and there is pearl inside of it. I had always wanted to do this since I was a little girl and never did. So of course Christopher encouraged me to do it, I picked one and was shocked to see a large blue pearl in my oyster. The lady at the counter said that they were rare and that she had not seen one of those in a long time. The best part is that it was inexpensive
and well just fun. Also when in San Francisco you have to ride a cable car, so of course Chris was a great sport and climbed on in.
