Saturday morning started with a bus ride on the Grayline to San Diego. We have booked with Grayline before on a trip to Universal Studios, so I thought that I would try them again to make the trip to San Diego easier. It was also cheaper to go this way as compared to renting a car and driving down by ourselves, as we booked the bus ride and the tickets into seaworld through Alaska Airlines Vacations we also got a discount. It was also nice not to have to pay for the gas, the rental car to sit in the hotel parking lot or the ridiculous amount that SeaWorld wanted to park your car in the parking lot.
At 8:30 in the morning we were picked up right in front of our hotel with other vacationers that were also picked up at their hotels andwe were then taken to the depot where we all split up and went on our respective buses to our final destinations. The sorting at the depot works like clockwork and there were no problems, just a lot of standing in line.
I loved the bus we were put on for our trip. It was
a double decker charter bus. Most of the people went straight to the top level, while our group chose the bottom level. We were in for a treat also as the first couple of rows on the bottom level faced each other and had a large table in the middle.
The bus ride down was smooth, but the driver kept eating and talking into his headset to us and you could hear him chewing. The sound was horrible.
Once there, we were escorted to the exit/ special group entrance of the park where they let us all in for 7 hours of play inside.
Unfortunately as we would find, 7 hours was not enough time to see everything in the park. Like I recommend so many times for Disneyland, if you love what SeaWorld has to offer, try and plan on staying 2 days at least.
We were able to see Shamu and yes we did get wet. Fortunately for me, my son was in front of me and took most of the water that was heading my way. He loved getting wet by Shamu.
For the rest of the day we walked around looking
A Hidden Waterfall
You never know what you will find just around the corner. at all of the animals and the aquariums. We were not able to catch anymore shows or any of the rides, but we did take advantage of the All-Day Dining deal. For one price you were given a bracelet that you wore and all you had to do was show it at the cash register of the eatery and you were good to go. It was 29.99 for an adult and it included an entree, side or desert and a drink with each meal that you went in and got, you could eat as many meals or as many combinations of those three items that you wanted. If you eat lunch and dinner in the park you will get your money's worth. It is especially good to have if you have people in your party with large appetites. There are restrictions, but we were able to use it just about everywhere that served meals and on anything they served except the babyback ribs.
Our favorite meal was at the Calypso Bay Smokehouse. If you like BBQ make sure you stop by here for a meal.
Besides Shamu, we made sure that we got around to the exhibits where
you can feed the animals. My favorite was the Bat Rays. They will actually swim over your hand and suck the fish out of your hand because their mouths are on the underside of their bodies. Across from the entrance of the Bat Rays were the flamingos. Now if you are like me you have never put much thought into what a flamigo eats. But, for those inquiring minds, when we went to feed them we were given a feed that was almost like what a farmer feeds chickens and they love it.
Of course like life, nothing is for free and you do have to pay for the food to give to the animals. But, for us the cost is worth the experience.
