Katie and friend in San Diego As planned, we checked out of our hotel by 9.30, and were at Seaworld by 10.00 - just in time for the opening. After a bit of a wander around to get our bearings we headed for the Dolphin spectacular, and were rewarded with about 30 minutes of amazing tricks by about half a dozen dolphins and a couple of pilot whales. We then hot-footed it to the Killer Whale stadium, and were treated to an even more amazing session. We had to endure the equally incredible American cheesiness of the intro (during which members of the American forces in the audience - and their families - were invited to stand up, whilst the rest of the audience whooped and hollered their approval). The killer whales (four of them) were (to use the vernacular) "awesome" - I have to admit to being impressed.
Thereafter we spent the rest of the day wandering around an assortment of small aquariums, ending the day with the Polar area, where we saw a Beluga Whale (beautifully white and graceful) and a walrus - which was HUGE. By 4pm we felt we'd had enough, so headed for the exit and a relatively easy drive back

The Dolphins at Seaworld to LA. Once again, however, the sheer volume of traffic, and the scale of Los Angeles, were amazing.
