Wow.
it took me a while to get this entry up, because the husband came to visit and then I had a bout with a stomach bug. Yuck. *Update* Park has had the swine flu all week. He made it back to Atlanta, and we think he caught it on the plane. He was feeling REALLY bad for a few days, and is finally doing better.
Any who. . .
Last week we began class with Eden and continued our training. We worked on both deeply emotional and highly comedic slices of life. We worked more on using the time we have in the waiting room to imagine the specifics of the life of this person than worrying about the words. It's very helpful.
We met with Phil Brock, a manager/agent who answered lots of our questions about getting an agent, getting a manager, auditioning, figuring out your type, headshots, etc. We also had the opportunity to have him watch a monologue. It was very informative. That evening we got to watch a taping of 'Rules of Engagement'. It was SO interesting, even if by the end of four and half hours of laughing we never wanted
to smile again. . . Patrick Warburton (Puddy from 'Sienfeld', Hymey from the new 'Get Smart' movie, etc. . .) was brilliant. I could watch him all day. They shoot sitcoms (mostly) in order, which is very different that one hour dramas or films. There was a comedian who was AH.MAY.ZING. The evening culminated with him balancing a ladder on his chin. Yep. Cirque de so what?
Last Thursday I picked up Park at the airport! It was so good to see him. And I am so glad he was able to visit for my birthday. It was a great weekend! My mom sent me a sweet birthday package (which Wolfy also enjoyed), we had dinner and gelato with Jason and Lauren, went to see the Lorikeets at the Aquarium, and dressed up and went to West Hollywood for Halloween evening. Wow.
On Sunday we went to DISNEYLAND!!!!!!!!!! It was INCREDIBLE. We rode lots of rides (including Tower of Terror, where I completely shut down and went to my happy place. . .) and got to watch Ace perform in 'Aladdin', the title role. He shut it down. Awesome. I think my favorites were Soarin', Matterhorn (weird, since
it's fast and bumpy), Pirates (most best) and maybe the Bug's Life show. It was ALL so magical though. We saw a night show outdoors called Phantasmic that was themed for Halloween (as were many of the rides). They projects animations onto a CURTAIN OF WATER. Awesome. Jack Skellington and Oogey Boogie, Maleficent and Ursula all led us through a spectacle with pirate ships, all of the Disney princesses, giants dragons, and showboats. So spectacular.
Monday and Tuesday I was SO sick. I caught some kind of little stomach virus. I missed a class with Eden and our second voice class. Ugh. I didn't even get to take Park to the airport. But it finally subsided and I made it back to class with Eden on Wednesday. That night we had out industry party. It was great. We wined and dined, and then Margie talked to everyone about what she teaches and did a demonstration of a 'frozen read'. Afterwards we chatted with agents and managers and other actors. I also met the star of the new film 'Paranormal Activity'- he is a student of Margie's. It was a fun night.
On Thursday, Queenie and I had lunch
with our buddy Lori who works at CBS at the wonderful Vegan Plate. Delish green curry with rice and salad for nine bucks. Pretty awesome. That night I got to go with the ISP group to see The Groundlings 'Cooking with Gas' show! THEY ARE OUTSTANDING! The Thursday night show is their Alumni show. I got to see Michael Hitchcock (from the Guffman movies, among many othe things) and he made my night. Outstanding. We also got to see the hilarious Rachael Harris and from 'The Hangover' Ken Jeong. The cast and the alums worked seamlessly. I nearly peed. Afterwards we were invited to stay for a free show called Groundlings Stories. Only Becc and I stayed, but it was well worth it. Five or six groundlings that we had not yet met told funny and touching stories from their past. It was great.
The next day we were so blessed to have improv class with another Groundlings alum, Tim Bagley (The Mask, Knocked Up, Monk, among others. . .). Wow. I had really missed improv! I can't wait to get back into class. Tim is a wonderful teacher- I hope he'll teach more often. Queenie and I went
to a Vinyasa yoga class and sweated it all out. We walked to RAW and ate a yummy, if overpriced, raw meal.
Saturday was a fun day- Queenie and I walked Wolfy to VERT (Queenie's work, a gym) and let him hang out while we worked out. He was. . . pretty good. We walked home and went to Leaf for some Rawchos and a yummy wrap. Not sure the Lentils sat well with me- I came home and fell immediately asleep. We missed our movie, and by the time we were dressed for Lori's Mad Men party, Ace was home. Queenie had to film couple of auditions (so she can play Ace's girlfriend!) and we never made it out to the party. 😞
And now it's Sunday again, and I am finally updating the blog. It's been a slow day, which is just fine. I'm looking forward to our final week of class! We get to work with Margie and Eden, and meet with another agent and a casting director. Exciting.
Yep. There's my update!
