From left to right it's Allyn, me, and Lauren sitting on the plane, ready for our adventure!!!
The next few entries you'll get from me have already happened as you'll be able to see by the date on the entry. We left 27 July and returned on 6 August. We're home now and getting ready for school to start again on the 15th. Hope you've had a good summer and I can't wait to hear from everyone via comments and emails! Mary

The first day of our trip started out extremely early in the morning. I picked Lauren up at her place and drove to Allyn's parents' home in Lexington. Wyatt and Nancy (her parents) were up and Wyatt and I loaded bags into the car. We set off for CLT by 5:15am to the song "California" and got to the airport with no problems. Check-in went smoothly and security did as well--for Lauren and I. Allyn got stopped cos of her crutches and had to undergo a full screening but we were shortly on our way. Had lots of laughs about random things so far on the trip!

Got to ATL--after a 39 minute flight with no beverage service. We ate breakfast from assorted locations and the girls had their coffee. Coffee!!! We had

arrived on Concorse B and made it to Concourse E in plenty of time to use the restroom, get water for the plane, and board--only to find out that our flight to LAX had been delayed for 2 hours. Not what we wanted to hear or deal with but let's just hope that this is the thing that will go wrong during our trip and now it's over and the fun can continue!

The flight to LAX was okay--had a bit of intermittent turbulence but nothing major. Allyn zonked out about 7 minutes after we began to taxi. As the plane was delayed--cos they had to get us a new plnae for whatever reason--the flight attendants announced that the entertainment system would be free! Too bad they didn't mean free free. The movies still cost money. Argh. But, I was albe to watch an intriguing episode of House that I hadn't seen previously so I made it through okay--and Lauren and I both took turns walking over Allyn to go to the loo. :-) Snack wasn't awful but there was no GF option for Allyn. Now, as both my travel companions have nodded off again, I do believe I'm

going to try to do the same...but wait, here comes the beverage/snack cart again.

Arrival to LAX went smoothly. It was easy to get luggage--all arrived!--and we easily got on the Thrifty Shuttle. We got all the licenses and insurance stuff taken care of and were told to go to Section 3. No one was really there and I didn't know what to do. One guy was sort of standing around so I asked what the deal was. He said I go to pick out whichever car I wanted from that section and drive away! We got a white Chrysler Pacifica with leather interior. We set off for Target to get a few bits and bobs and that's where Amy met us after a haircut. She led us to Trader Joe's where we got breakfast and snack food for the first part of our trip.

Came back from Trader Joe's and chilled for a bit at Amy's place before riding bikes down to the Hermosa Beach Pier. We rode along the Strand for a bit to see the volleyball courts and some of the beach. We finally decided to eat Mexican food at the Cantina Real as we

were all starving. After eating we went back outside and walked out to the end of the pier.

We rode bikes back to the house--mostly uphill--and then checked email and headed to bed. Amy went out to Hollywood with some friends but we didn't even though we were invited. We'd been up since before 4am EDT. It had been a very long day.

Allyn had (!!!) a stress fracture in her femoral neck and had to bring Cosmo and Polly along on our adventure as well. Cosmo got to see a lot but eventually got into quite a bit of trouble and had to be grounded.
