Looks like I can't actually update with photos and video at the moment. Due to some hotel setting which I'll have to figure out soon.
I'm sitting in the lobby of the Sheraton Park Hotel, a truly wonderful hotel at which I will buy a beer as soon as I figure out how to get cash from my room without leaving my seat....
The flight was so boring, I truly think it was a kind of mental torment. I hate all virgin movies now, and all music and "radio" The food was very much like airplane food but at least the service was nice. I didn't sleep at all - it had nothing to do with excitement, QUITE the opposite! The drone of the plane, the boredom, the confined space. Jihye fared better and slept alittle.
I was fine when we landed and America customs was surprisingly fast for me. No search of bags at all. Poor Jihye was grilled by immigration but got through without incident.
I have to mention, as we landed it, it seriously looked like Blade Runner! The smoke stakes, the industrial wasteland, the lights on the pillars! LAX was so casual expect
that things seemed alittle strange outside. Firstly a cop on the iconic LA motobike wizzed by with a pump action shotgun casually secured against the side of the bike. The matte black and white cop cars came by with their huge bullbars. The cars and slight smog were signs things were alittle different than Brisbane.
The Cars can range from unroadworthy to MASSIVE tank like trucks, Buses of all sizes and shapes; the roads aren't so great and the line markings are hard to see, more like light brown concrete than asphalt. The convience stores are far cheaper than Australia but in Anaheim are still rather expensive apparently. I brought an America coke and being the connosieur I am I found them to be softer in flavour. The amount of candies and chocolates are staggering but what can you expect near Disney. Almost brought an Anaheim, CA Harley Davidson shirt....
We had some Johnny Rockets for Lunch which are massive burgers and is very much like Hungry Jacks, the waitress was so nice and as with half the people in LA they speak some kind of Latino/Spanish. Everybody is so helpful! Johnny Rockets was expensive and when I
say that I mean Aussie prices!
We are walking distance from Disney and thats on the cards tomorrow. It's cool to hear how loud Americans are - I've been asked to speak up several times already and the bus driver...what a champion....on a busy LA freeway he pulled into the emergency lane, sheepishly got up and grinned - "sorry guys, I gotta use the bathroom" haha he must of been thinking "should I stop? should I stop?" for like 5 mins straight.
So yeah, really awesome. I wish I could upload the pics but something is stopping the videos and pictures! argh!
Steve.
