Jumped on the bike and hit the road before 8am this morning. Didn't have to look too hard to find route 66 as we were already on it!

Route 66 (or Steinbecks 'mother road'😉 is a wonderfully historic road although only parts of it now actually exist. Most sections have been swallowed up by the interstate 40. And some parts just lead you to a dead end!

This used to be America's main street, where people would travel from east to west in search of warmer climbs, hope and opportunity. The newer freeway, albeit much more practical has rung the death knell for the neon cafes, resturants, gift shops and motels that used to line this road. Even the gas stations rarely pump gas any more!

A few of these have, however, survived, such as Roys in Amboy. He pretty much sells everything including gas. Great place where we stopped for juice and crisps.

We then carried on to Needles and stopped for some coffee in the wagonwheel inn, then headed east to Kingman, which took us into Arizona. They have a great visitors centre in Kingman, with the friendliest most helpful staff.

We thought we'd spend the night in a little town called Williams, which is around 60 miles from the Grand Canyon. A neet little wild west town which has a cowboy gunfight every night at 7pm. We had some food in a quirky resturant on the main street where we could hear the gunfire.

Ahh! Just like being back in Milton!!
