Bonjour Day Six!!

Well... this morning we woke up in our Wigwam, lounged around our TP, then grabbed breakfast at a Route 66 diner (Joe & Aggies) and were in Flagstaff by noon. But between Holbrook and Flagstaff we passed through Joseph City stopping to take pictures at the Geronimo Trading post and the Jack Rabbit trading post. After Joseph City we drove through Winslow, drove over Canyon Diablo, which really isn't a canyon at all, more like a 4ft valley with a creek running through it. Why it's called Canyon Diablo, I don't know. We then drove through Winona passing an old Route 66 bridge. Taking a side trip, we went to visit the Twin Arrows, an old Route 66 landmark.. It was gas station and cafe, now not operating. Heading on we took another side trip to Meteor City. There we saw the World's Longest Map of Route 66 (it's painted on the side of the building), and the World's Largest Dream Catcher . After Meteror City we drove all the way to Flagstaff. We drove through flagstaff for a bit, kind of got turned around then decided to go south to Sedona for the day. On our way to Sedona we traveled along a highway that winded up, down, and all around the mountains. It was crazy, thank goodness Dad was driving! I might have driven off the side, the road was insane! In Sedona, we grabbed a bite to eat at the Cowboy Grille. The Cowboy Grille served some crazy foods : rattlesnake and cactus fries. The cactus fries were fried slices of Prickly Pear cactus's served with a dipping sauce from the fruits of the same cactus. The rattlesnake was served cooked (obviously) with bones and all. The waitress said it tastes like chicken or pork, but it's really hard to eat because there are so many little bones. We weren't feeling very
adventurous and stuck to turkey sandwiches with iced tea. After lunch we wandered around Sedona, going in and out of all the little shops, and doing a little shopping as well. Leaving Sedona, we followed the crazy road back to the highway. On our way we passed a National Park where people were jumping off the red rocks into a creek or river (not sure which is was). Farther up we stopped at a viewing area and looked out at the gorgeous vistas. The view from the winding roads were incredible! Back on the highway we decided to keep driving north past Flagstaff and up to the Grand Canyon. Tonight we are staying at The Grand Lodge. It was tough finding a place to stay tonight, all of the hotels are booked solid. Right when we drove into this town I noticed the Lodge and thought it looked like an interesting place to stay, after checking the Holiday Inn, we headed straight for the Lodge. Dad walked in and i stayed in the car and didnt see him until 30 minutes later. Turns out Dad used a bit of quick talking, asking the concierge if they had lost our reservation (one we had never had) saying that Guest could have been mistaken for another name. Luckily (and i mean we were very lucky!) the guy next to Dad cancelled his reservation, and we took his room. Tonight the Lodge is booked solid. We booked it for one night only and are planning on staying the night in Flagstaff tomorrow night. AFter getting our room, we headed down the street to see an IMAX movie about the Grand Canyons Hidden Secrets. It was very interesting, it showed the canyon when Native Americans inhabited it all the way until it is now. I showed canoes, kayaks, and inflatable crafts floating down and riding the rough waves of the Colorado River. It showed the canyon from the sky and down at the water level. After the movie we headed into the Grand Canyon park and watched the sun set over the canyon. It was a wonderful way to end the night. Tomorrow we plan to spend the entire day at the canyon, and possibly try to walk out on the Skywalk.
