Bobbie and Annie in wheelchairs
It is 2:30 am and they are waiting for Henna and Larry to pick them up in Phoenix Well, we are home and regardless how much fun you had, it's good to be home. It went by so fast; for those of us that still work, I would highly recommend trying to get away for at least 3 weeks. It puts you in such a different state of mind when you are away from work for so long. You re-think your life, goals and dreams. It will be difficult to get back to work. I like Jan's recommendation of getting back in to it slowly. Does that mean I only have to work 3 days next week? 😊
We got off the ship around 11 AM and took a taxi to Skyline Chili in Ft Lauderdale. Our taxi driver said he would come back at Noon to pick us up. Here is a link to give you an idea what it is: http://www.skylinechili.com/
We were just finishing up and I see Minnie, Jack, Janice and Richard in the parking lot. They are staying in Ft Lauderdale for a week and I had told them to try to get to this place to try the chili. I'm not sure if they liked it. We had to say goodbye as our
Skyline Chili
Enjoying Chili with our friends. taxi had arrived.
We got to the airport and our flight was delayed 15 minutes. Not too bad, we have an hour and 15 minute layover in Houston. We should be ok. As we get in to Houston, the plane seems to be circling the airport. The pilot announces that we have to wait for a clearance to land, the planes are backed up. We begin to worry a bit. We finally land and have about 40 minutes to get to our gate, which is in a different terminal. It is a long way. There is a tram, but it only gets us a little closer. We have to walk fast and even run a bit. We get there in time, with enough time to go to the bathroom. The flight is oversold so if we had been within 10 minutes of closing the flight, we probably would have lost our tickets. We arrive back in Tucson around 7:40 pm and Uncle Don is there to pick us up. A quick stop at Fry's (milk for coffee in the morning) and Starbucks (got to pick up coffee beans), home and in bed by 9:30 pm.
The Tweedles were not
so lucky. We get up and see we have phone messages from Bobbie and Annie saying they didn't make their connection and are stuck in Atlanta with no more flights to Tucson until the next morning. They decided to go to Phoenix. We assumed they may need a ride from Phoenix but we don't want to call them, not knowing when they went to bed. At this point we think Larry and Henna are with them. We call Larry's cell around 8 am and we wake them. They made their connection (barely, after running through the airport) in Atlanta and arrive in Tucson late and Brent and Karen pick them up. Since Bobbie and Annie were on a different departure out of Ft Lauderdale, they arrive in Atlanta too late to make the connection. Bobbie and Annie get in to Phoenix some time after midnight (I think) and call Larry. Larry and Henna get out of bed and drive to Phoenix to get them. It is important that Annie and Bobbie get home because they leave again on Sunday morning to go to DC (on business) and then on to see their son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren including new baby 'Claire'.
When Larry pulled up to pick them up, Annie and Bobbie were both sitting in wheelchairs!! It is now 2:30AM, they have been up since about 7AM EST and Annie hugs Henna and says, "and this is how it ends for the Tweedles".
On the drive to Tucson, there is a horrible wreck on the highway and they sit in traffic for over an hour. Everyone is exhausted and Larry puts on some oldies tunes. They sing, laugh and even rap to keep each other awake. Slap happy and having fun at the most unusual time! Memories to last a lifetime. I'm sure they can tell the story better since I was at home sleeping. They finally arrive home around 5:30 am!!!!
I will be uploading pictures soon!!!
