We met with Kathy from the Arizona Game & Fish Department, where she took us into the Kaibab National Forest. We began the tour with a few photo opportunities along the scenic south rim of the Grand Canyon. Following our brief stop, we went into the educational center where Kathy gave us some information about the California Condors. Here are a few facts to nibble on: (1) the California condor is named this because they were predominantly in California, (2) they mate for life, reproducing only every other year because both the male and female stay at home with the young for about 16 months and (3) the condor is often confused with the turkey vulture, but has a much longer wing-span and has a white triangle on its underside, while the turkey vulture has a black triangle on its underside. After we finished listening to the educational portion, we went to the village and had lunch and purchased some souvenirs. It was so crowded with many tourists. part. Despite the huffing and puffing, the hike was a memorable experience. Along the way, we saw some of the condors that Kathy mentioned and a young mountain goat, who let us take his picture. We spent about 8 hours there and were tired by the end of the day. What a great day Hope you like the pictures, and we’ll see you in Phoenix.
