Unlike the last few days, it began cloudy but the sun came out late afternoon (our luck continues). We made for College Fjord 60 degrees north of the equator. There are about 8 glaciers here all separated from each other. Yesterday we were told the visibility here, was zero, which wouldn’t have been good for yesterday’s tourists but today our luck continued and its a horrible thought but, you can literally come here only once in your life and if it’s the wrong day … a terrible thought. Anyway we saw sea otters lazing on big flat house size icebergs only to be scared off when we slowly edged past them, we saw two humpback whales a mile away and we all saw a lone black bear roaming and searching for food on a beach about ½ mile away.
The sun created some great effects thru the clouds highlighting some shorelines and then blanking out some mountains half way up only to reveal the snow covered top - we saw this a few times it was great to see. The main glacier was huge and sea ice prevented us getting too close, no calving today, too cold at 6 degrees. Before I forget, it gets dark very late up here; official sunset is about 10.42pm but its still light at 11.30pm and its unnerving, daybreak is about 4.30am
It was our last night on board which meant packing, filling in forms and saying goodbye to our dinner table friends whom we got to know very well - all Americans from all over the US and a really a friendly great happy group - people everyone would like to know a lot more.
