Sunday, July 29, 2007 In the morning Frank signed up for a glacier walk (crampons etc.) I declined and spent the time catching up on various things. He said the hike was interesting.
We scheduled a sightseeing flight for 6:30 pm. It was a 4 seat plane; another woman from Bethesida MD,took the flight with us. We thought the mountains and glaciers of the Wrangell- St. Elias Mountains would be interesting to see from the air. And they were. There are so many glaciers and so many mountains -- - they seemed to go on forever. The weather socked in a bit and to avoid turbulence we had to fly at a higher altitude than they normally fly. It was a great flight. We really enjoyed it.

There are lots of glaciers in this mountain range. The dark streaks are moraine - -piles of dirt and rocks the glacier scraps from the mountains and leaves behind as it moves.

Eventually the stream goes underneath the glacier.
