Lake Louise
Overcast day at the lake makes it difficult to photo the true colors. It is a beautiful lake in a beautiful setting. Thursday, June 28, 2007 We were in the Lake Louise parking lot by 7:45 am getting ready for the hike of the day. This was a recommended hike and it was a doozy! Frank went to the very end of the trail so he walked about 9.5 miles and climbed about 2100 Ft. I stopped at the tea house on the trail so it was 7.75 miles for me and about 1500 Ft. The hike followed the lake, went through a spruce forest, then went up a ridge and followed the glacier till (debris-mostly rocks). We saw snow on the path and there were many glacier melt waterfalls on the way. The day was overcast, but it wasn’t cold or windy. So it was comfortable, but the photo colors weren’t great. When we had almost reached the tea house we saw an avalanche across the valley. It made a loud rumbling noise and was neat to see. The climb was steep and it took me awhile, but I made it. Six glaciers used to be visible from the top of the trail, but now there are only 3. There really is a tea house a mile from the top. The
supplies are brought in by helicopter at the beginning of the season then packed in by horse. The staff changes every 5 days. The establishment has been there since the 1920’s as a rest stop for travelers. It’s pretty primitive. Today, I guess that’s known as quaint.
We got back to CT around 2:30 pm. Needless to say we were both very tired. Headed back to the campsite and I cooked hamburgers, rice and green beans. That was a nice change since I usually to the Stouffer’s quickie meals. As I write this I can hear thunder. I hope tomorrow is sunny, the lake colors are more vivid.
Lake Louise is very pretty, the blue color and the mountains framing it make it a standout. There are tourists here from all over the world.
Tomorrow we explore Moraine Lake. It’s not far from Lake Louise and not supposed to be as crowded. I’m not planning on a 7 mile hike.

never coming back
I would not be surprised if you didn't want to return to Richmond. This scenery is incredible. Of course, I suspect that winter might be a bit different. Randy
