alright, the glacier cruise. we drove down to whittier, about an hour south of Anchorage to catch the boat. the population of Whittier is about 200 or so. Ok, so if you look carefully about 2/3 of the way to the right hand side of this photo you can see an orange speck? That's a tent. There were five kayakers camped out next to the glacier, I'm not sure if the website resizes photos but I hope you can see it - it's just after the green. It might help with the whole perspective thing.

Here are the zillions of birds. They were everywhere, for about a mile and up the whole side of the mountain. It was neat but also kind of creepy. I stayed inside the boat.

Here's the Portage glacier. Well, the building on the left is the visitors' center, which you used to be able to view the glacier from. Now, there's a huge lake with this enormous chunk of ice in it. Google it - even the ice chunk used to be bigger.

This is where the Portage glacier is today - see that whitish blue area between the snowcapped mountains to the right? That's it.
