Mt. Redoubt

The drive along the Kenai Peninsula to Homer is spectacular - this is only one of the volcanos you can see across the ocean

Ninilchik Russian Orthodox Church

Many Native Alaskans remain Russian Orthodox and have churches in their small communities. Ninilchik is near Homer along Rt. 1, Kenai Peninsula

I'm sure this has a different name, but since it is a breeding lake and full of Arctic terns in the summer, I've always called it Tern Marsh

The new aquarium in Seward has a pond with local seabirds

Kenai Lake

The color of Kenai Lake never fails to awe - no photo enhancement necessary as the glacial dust in the water gives this lake its azure tones

Just before starting South from AK I reconnected with a school mate and we had a delightful lunch. No, I couldn't get her to smile in the photo even though we had been laughing for several hours

Wasilla

A major feature of scenery in AK - our scrawny black spruce, so I'm including this in the spirt of "full foreclosure." They are perfectly healthy, probably pretty old and yes, always look like that

Mat-Su Glacier

Very near Anchorage (closer to Wasilla) is the beautiful Mat-Su Glacier. We had a final sight of it as we left AK heading south

Our first stop over the border into the USA was at my sister and her husband's place in Gig Harbor, again.

Good friends from El Paso (actually met in the Netherlands) were delivering daughter Alicia to UPS in Tacoma (very near my sister in Gig Harbor) for her first year of university and fortuitously our paths crossed

Stuart & Susan

Friends who live in Seattle also have a beach house near Port Orchard and we LOVE to visit them there

The perfect spot to read, rest or just look at the view - Mt. Rainier was in full view most of the time we were there
