The Civil War was a war fought between the northern and southern states of the United States. The Civil War was fought during 1861-1865. The Civil War took place in the South of the United States. The Civil War was to free the slaves in the South from slavery. The Civil War happened when Abraham Lincoln was the President of the United States. President Lincoln was against slavery and helped end slavery in the southern states. Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in order to help free the slaves from slavery. The slaves in the south were freed from slavery after the war ended. However, slavery was not technically illegal until the 13th amendment was made. Soon after the Civil War ended President Lincoln was assassinated at Ford's Theater. The Civil War ended slavery in the south; however, there was still racism. The racism was not only in the south; it was all over the United States.
