After being stuck in a chair for 11 hours, I arrived at MX city! Which is massive! Arriving at day ligth gave me chance to see the city from above, it's end-less! Wherever you would look, there's city. After asking around I was informed that there are 22 million people on 45 by 30 kilometers. It's like a cage system for chickens...Besides I was aching for fresh air, so looking forward to the moment I inhale fresh air...YUK what a disappointment; such a stench!
I had a scavenger hunt in the city, by dodging the fare in the subway(not totally on purpose, didn't manage to actually buy a ticket..) I visited Chapultepec park(means grasshopper), where I visited the zoo. Which was okay in some parts; the wolves had a massive area(I didn't see them😉) After this I visited Museo Nacional de Antropologia, which is enormous and interesting. Outside of the museum local Alex approached me and seduced me to show me around a little; pointed out Zona Rosa and explained the missing chair in taxis en the rope to close the door; speeds up the business..., crazy business!
I kinda agreed with Alex to go with him the next
day to Teotihuacan, to see the moon and sun temple. There he was already getting more exhausting by the minute before and a Scottish guy wanted to join in, I dodged him (not the fare this time😉) The ruins were incredible with the 'calle del muertos'; sacrificing children to whoever up there; the more they cry the more rain they will get.. As well that the Spaniards thought from a far far distance that the temples were piles of gold flickering in the sun. I had to stay 10 days in MX city, which wouldn't be my own choice, but due to bank card issues I had to. Luckily I met Dutchie Michelle who turned out to be a good companion! After my card arrived I went up north to San Miguel de Allende (4hrs)visit 2 Canadian girls I've met in the city.
In S.M de Allende I've been 2 nights, wandered around a bit in the cute cobbled stone streets, met up with the 2 Canadians, had food and happy hour. Ended up with our waiter in La Cucaracha(cockroach). Fitting name for a not so clean place😉 I did get some tips of gems along the coast line.
From there I went directly to Oaxaca(+6 hrs). This decision I actually immediately made after driving into MX city and had the clear sense that staying overnight, wouldn't make me very happy.
Oaxaca was again a 2 nighter. I've met up again with Dutchie and her boyfriend arrived as well. We met for dinner and sociable me invited an American roomie from the hostel. That was a bad choice; she was very serious and very much only talking about herself: she has been sick, can't eat salad, feels dizzy when she does and probably has malaria...yes whatever my dear, it's your party.. Anyhoo we chit chatted about next plan and decided to go for the tip I've got up north: go to Mazunte. Two ways to get there: bus=10 hrs and minivan =5,5 hours. Easy decision: the minivan was way faster and half the price, I know I know there's always a catch, this time it was winding roads through the mountains, with every few 100m a 'tope' (road hump) and as we were sitting in the back there were no head supports which means seat ended under my shoulders. Full of pain, stiff and exhausted I arrived in
dirty Pochutla, from where we had to take a taxi.., but then: a gorgeous not touristy place!
Mazunte doesn't have electricity, barely any tourists, some restaurants on the beach with candles when dark. Sleeping in a little hotel (Zita) where the sound of the waves was loud!! It is very close to touristy Zipolite/ Puerto Escondido. Anyhoo it was beautiful! I went to a turtle sanctuary, we did a little trip to see dolphins; we were suppose to swim with them but they weren't in a good mood that day; every time we jumped in they swam away.. And we went into the mangroves (Ventanilla) where we got eaten alive by mosquitos, seen a Jesus Christ lizard scooting over the water and sea crocs!
After this heavenly place I cried and ended up in the northpole -> on my way back to Pochutla the taxi in front of us hit a mother raccoon, leaving some 4 youngsters behind, horrible. And the taxi drivers didn't care at all. After that the bus ride to San Cristobal de las Casas was in a freezer, the bus driver found it necessary to put the aircon on maximum. I've tried a few
times to ask (and later on, demand) to lower it, but no way Jose, not a chance. The locals were better prepared, I hung a tea towel over my head to feel a tiny bit better. But then there was also a slightly overweighted Mexican s(p)itting next to me.. San Cristobal is a nice town with really nice nature. As I decided I wanted to go study some Spanish in Guatemala, I didn't spend much time to take that step and cross the border. What I did do was a day trip to see the waterfalls Agua Azul and Misol Ha (which is apparently known for 'Alien vs Predator' ..that's not what made me happy: the waterfall on the other hand did!). And I've seen Palenque, so pretty with lush surroundings and loud metal-ish sounds of (what I imagine) massive crickets!
