So we've carried on our world wind tour of Mexico since we last wrote, spending time in San Cristobal De Las Casas, Palenque, Merida and Tulum, on our way to Cancun now with mixed reports of what we may find there. Lots of travellers we've spoken to aren't the biggest fans of Cancun but hey we're this far over we may as well check it out for a day or two. Kinda feels like things are getting more and more chilled out the further round we go, every place we stay in feels a little more relaxed than the last. Tulum has definatly been my favourite place so far, hostel was amazing, family that ran it were so so lovely and the beach was by far and away the most amazing we've ever been on-turquoise sea and white sand with very few people to share it with, plus no sellers so no more 'no gracias' from us! Amazing.
So what have we been up to in all these places, San Cristobal was a lovely little town with loads of chilled out bars and a huge market to walk around, still being very good not buying loads-so far budget is doing ok
but not sure how long that will last for. We did however find an all you can eat Steak buffet....cooked to order with rib eye, new york strip or t-bone till your hearts content...I managed 2 and a half which I thought was good going until I watched Tom eat his 3rd...4th..5th...6th and 7th steak-what a guy!!!!! (Moorey, Tom wants to add here that he is sorry for raining on your bem brazil parade, which we are gutted to miss by the way, but this place was only 6.50 including a couple of drinks and some salad...dont worry david we didnt fill up on that too much!)
Leaving San Cristobal was definatly our first big panic of the trip, pick up was from our hostel at 6.30am...going to spend a day travelling towards Palenque but stopping off at some beautiful waterfalls and some more ruins on the way. Night before, mostly packed up, alarm set, earlish night ready for the day ahead, next morning wake up call....not the alarm clock but the door bell at 6.30 with a bus full of people waiting for us to get on with all our stuff, and a not very happy driver saying he
would only wait one minute and no longer...could definatly have done with some real life benny hill speed up music right then, throwing the last of our stuff at our bags and running to the door while dressing (without a shower which for me is a killer!) then having to make our way up a huge hill as the driver apartently thought that would be a good way of getting us back-driving far enough away to make me think he'd gone without us and just far enough up a hill to be very annoying with all our bags only just packed, made for a very interesting start to the day. The rest of the day was well worth it though amazing waterfalls, one which we're were able to swim in and arrival at a really nice wee hostel right in the middle of the jungle. Onto Palenque, not much to say really other than this place is HOT, so much so that our legs felt like jelly for most of the day and we really couldnt do much at all, wasn't helped by the fact that a Supermarket was the highlight of the town and we had to check out
at 11.30 and had to wait for our night bus 12 hours later...we walked around ALOT that day.
Onto Merida and a hostel with a pool-winner, plus a trip to Chichen Itza, sorry Andrew but it was pretty great, we were worried that too many ruins into our trip we wouldn't be the biggest appreciaters of it but it was a really great day, Tom managed his first bartering session and got a couple of quid knocked off a t-shirt so he was happy. Then came Tulum which has been great, great little hostel with free bikes to get us around the town, who we...ok i named Batman and Robin, all seemed a bit surreal cycling through a wee town in mexico late at night with our reflector vests and head lamps on, but all adds to the experience, esp when you realise Tom isnt the most balanced person on a bike and stopping becomes a difficult operation...that is unless there is a tree he can just ride into as an emergency stop-brilliant! We also managed to cram in a day at our paradise beach, snorkelling afternoon in a cenote (underwater caves systems) which was amazing once we'd got the
hang of masks and breathing stuff...and when I say we I of course mean Tom, who managed to break the equipment we had hired, cant take him anywhere! As well as a trip to an Argentine steak house...so I know we're a few thousand miles off Argentina yet, but we couldnt put it off it was calling out to us and it def delivered, the hugest most amazing steak ever, Tom reckons about 32 ounces but I have no idea bout that kind of thing, all I know is we got two dishes to share and the steak fillet on its own could have fed us both, cut in half both pieces were still bigger than most you get at home, amazing.
So things are still going great over this side of the world, please do keep us posted with all your news, we're missing hearing all the bits and bobs of daily life. Our little day to day things seem to be things like Tom putting salt on his cereal instead of sugar, more mosquito bites (not interested in that), dodgy toliets (a few of the hostels have had shower curtains as doors, propinas, propinas, propinas (tips, tips and
more tips) still getting used to the sun as the gallon load of sun cream we've already used can testify too and just figuring things out day to day on what takes our fancy-love it. Until next time xxx

England Jersey the problem
Tom, when will you learn, you are being hassled for tips because of the England rugby shirt. If you wore an Ireland shirt they would be giving you money. Are you learning any of the history of the amazing places you are going, or are you just taking silly photos? Glad you are having a good time, laughed at the bus story - our old school bus driver Jack used to do the whole 'if I pull away a bit it will make you run faster' nonsense. Miss you lots, Gemma and Caleb say hello too.
