In Dady´O
Inside Dady´O in Cancun Just a quick update
Currently, I'm in Tulum, Mexico. Tulum is located about 2 1/2 hours south of Cancun by bus and is the home of the Mayan ruins of the city of Tulum.
Cancun Stories
Just to wrap up a few more stories about Cancun. My last comment about Cancun had me learning a new card game with a group of 4 at my hostel. After the game continued on until about 12:00 AM and slowly people started to fade into their dorm rooms to head off to bed I made my way to the Zona Hotelera with Marco. Marco is 29 year old Swiss sports teacher and handball trainer when he's at home. Currently, he is on a 4 week holiday between his various teaching and training jobs.
In Zona Hotelera we headed to
Dady'O. It is just one more of Cancun's big tourist clubs. Enjoying ourselves there till about 5 AM we headed back to Centro Cancun and made our way into another club in the downtown district. Leaving this club we made our way down to McDonald's for some breakfast since the sun was already up.
The problem came when we found
Tabares
Bar Number 2 for the night that the door was locked and that they didn't open until 7. Seeing the manger inside we knocked on the door and asked if we could come in to wait and the lady let us right in. We went to sleep on some couches they had. We had asked her to wake us up around 7 so we could eat. That didn't happen. Around 8:30 or so I woke up to a group of kids playing next to us as we were fairly close to the climbing toys.
Tulum
We (Marco & I) arrived in Tulum on Friday around 4:00 in the afternoon. Checking into our hostel took only 1 1/2 hours and we got the worst room in the entire hostel for 90 pesos each. We had come to Tulum to see the ruins, but to be honest they were in our room. Piled within the room and in all corners were bath tiles that were still being installed in the bathroom in the room. In additon we had a sink on the floor, a toilet in the corner, bars for towels and dust on everything. But it works because to be honest its so hot here
Just a half hour
It turned into 2 hours but I think I really needed the sleep the only thing I do in the room is sleep, and after going out at night I don't have too much trouble getting my body to fall asleep.
After chekcing in Marco and I made our was to an Itailan restaurant we were told about from some girls in our hostel called La Nave. I went with the lasagna and it was really good.
Of all the things we did on Friday going to the park was the best. Marco and I played a game he has with him called Speedmitton, a cross between tenis and badmitton in the park. The locals got a real kick out of it and we had a decent crowd watching us as the park was quite busy since it was Friday. We played speed mitton for about 45 minutes working up a decent sweat then headed over to the basketball court. Those of you who know my athletic abilities, know that they fall quite short when it comes to basketball. Marco and I asked some local boys if we could play a 2 on 2 game and they accepted. Playing to 11 points we one with the help of Marco's height over
Bus to Tulum
Saving money we took the cheaper bus which happened to fill up while I was in the bathroom. Bad a first, but after getting settled in I had enough room to lay down and take a half hour nap on the way. the boys. After the game another group came up and we played them and won again. So you know they were 16 and 17 year old boys so we had some decent competition as they seemed to never get tired of running around all the time.
While we were playing we managed to get another good crowd going. Not to say we were the first but I don't think that a lot of tourist wander into the park and ask to play games with the locals. We had a great time, got some good exercise and headed back to the hostel for a good drink.
We had purchased Ron Anejo from the local market. Basically its just dark rum, but its their version of spiced rum. Nothing on Captain Morgan or Sailor Jerrry, but the liter bottle was only 40 pesos, $4 US. Picked up some Coke and headed back to make the drinks.
After drinks and some cards at the hostel Marco and I made our way to a local disco around 1:00 AM. The place we ended up at didn't have a name above it, but it was pumping out some loud music and there
Ruins in the room
This was about 50% of the mess that was our wonderful room in The Weary Traveler Hostel in Tulum, Mexico seemed to be a lot of people inside from the doorway. Once we got in, we got some beer and headed to a table. It only took us two seconds to tell that we were the only tourists in this entire place. We finished our drinks, got a second round, and made our way to the dance floor. I guess being the only tourists had its perks and we were dancing with everyone in the club just having a great time. The guys all came up and wanted to watch us dance and I had more than a few tell me they thought I was really good. HAHA. The joke is on them if you ask me. We had a great time and everyone was so nice. We headed back to the hostel at 5 AM after the disco closed and ended up conversating with a Finnish girl and an Austrailan guy for another 40 minutes or so. Finally headed to bed around 6.
