Day 337 - Monday 1 September
After spending all morning on the internet booking travel tickets we made our way down to the ferry point in the hotel zone. We got there just before 1pm but the next boat doesn't leave until 2 so we hade to wait around an hour in the scorching heat.
As Isla de Mujeres is only just off the coast of Cancun it only took twenty mins to get there and with it being such a small island we were booked into some accommodation and down the beach by half past three. It looks like a nice little island so there should be a few relaxing days ahead and as I hadn't expected to be on any more small islands again it was a nice surprise.
I don't know how hot it is today but its absloutely roasting. I kept having to cool off in the sea every 15 mins and my eyes were stinging from the sweat that was running into them. After a couple of hours I couldn't take any more and headed for my air conditioned apartment to watch some of the US open tennis.
Once the Andy Murray
game had finished we went out to book ourselves onto a scuba dive trip tomorrow. Its a lot more expensive than the last time I dived in Thailand but I've got my chance to do my first wreck dive. Well with an early start tomorrow it was a quiet night in watching more of the tennis.
Day 338 - Tuesday 2 September
We were up early and by 9am were sailing out into the carribean sea. Its a chance for me to do my first scuba dive for six months. Theres an old gunboat thats been sunk just off the coast so should be good to swim around it. It was actually really good especially swimming inside the boat itself and seeing all the fish hiding in the various rooms. Shortly after we did our second dive and went looking for sharks. The first one we found was only a baby but the second was about 1.5 - 2 m long. Its a good job its not a man eater. I also saw the biggest lobsters and crabs i've ever seen. I could have made a fortune selling them to one of the local resturants.
Returning back
to shore early afternoon I felt like I'd had enough sun for one day so instead of the beach I sheltered from the sun in the apartment. Once the sun started going down I did head back to the beach with a few beers to watch the sunset.
After watching a bit more tennis we headed out to sample the local nightlife. I keep hearing the name of a bar by the beach thats supposed to be pretty wild but I found it rather dull and boring. If people think this is lively they should see the beach bars in Thailand.
Day 339 - Wednesday 3 September
I had a bit of a lie in and didn't get up until mid morning. I then spent the remainder of the morning on the beach. It was so hot thought that I was glad to escape the heat and return to our apartment around lunchtime.
After watching Andy Murrays quater final game I headed back down the beach to work some more on the tan. Wow pretty much every single girl on the whole beach has decided to sunbathe topless this afternoon. Im not being a pervert but
you just couldn't help but have a quick look. Even the girls on the beach were checking each other out. One girl in green bikini bottoms had the most amazing breasts ive seen. They were just about perfect especially with her light tan and she decided to stand directly infront of me with her hands on her hips and talk to someone she seemed to know. Wow as I said they were that good as a normal bloke you couldnt help but look. Her boyfriend sure is a lucky bloke.
After another couple of beers on the beach over sunset it was another night in watching the tennis. I´ve got a really early start tomorrow so cant be having a late night.
Day 340 - Thursday 4 September
It was an early start today to do our snorkeling trip with whale sharks. Cancun is one of the few places in the world where you can see them and swimming with a 5m long shark sounds pretty cool. Luckily again they're not man eaters and only eat plancton but they do have these enormous mouths. I hope they dont accidentally swallow me by mistake.
So we were down the pier by 7am and the suns already feeling strong. Although theirs cover on the boat the suns too low in the sky for it to be of any use yet, so i think i'll be rather burnt by the end of the trip. We had to go out an hour to sea to find the whale sharks and the sea was really choppy. Quite a few people were throwing up and I myself was feeling a bit green. At $125 US the trips not exactly cheap especially as you only get two twenty second swims with the whale sharks but it was a pretty unique experience.
Once everybody had had a couple of swims we headed over to a snorkeling site to snorkel the coral there. Unfortunatley because of the choppy water visibility isn't that good so you couldn't see that much today.
By half one we were back on dry land on Isla de Mujeres. As the people on our trip had all seemed decent enough and we've a couple of hours to kill before we catch the boat back to cancun we joined them all for a beer in one of the beach bars. Unfortunatley we spent too long there and ended up missing the boat so had to wait 2 hours for the next one.
Early evening we were back in our old hostel in Cancun. It had been a tiring daywith an early start so I had an early night.
