So the last few days in Chicago were great, Luke did some shopping and we went with my Auntie Hazel to the huge Museum of science and Industry, and went on a massive bike ride through the countryside to Brookfield Zoo!
One night we went bowling with everyone, I was embarrassed that my score was about 38 (everyone else´s was over 90) due to me missing all the skittles most of the time, oh but more embarrassing for Luke was when he was asked for I.D. at the bar, and because he had left it at home he was refused a drink - ha!!
And we had a lovely meal out with everyone at a nice restaurant, all in all Chicago was wonderful, so thank you Auntie Hazel, Uncle Rod, Miles & Oli!!!
Our last night was lovely, we had a great meal (cooked by chef johnson) and plenty of wine, and I think there was quite a few drunk people!!
We both wished we´d got longer there!
Then on the 8th much to Auntie Hazels delight we were up at half 4 and off to the airport where we said our goodbyes and checked in for our flight to Mexico!
By 7.30 we were on the plane and 15 minutes later we were on our way!
We should´ve known then that Mexico was going to be fun because by 8.15am they were serving us breakfast........Beef Chilli Enchilada´s! I skipped that one, so Luke ate 2!
Arriving at the airport Luke was desperate for the toilet, and off he went, only to come back completely mortified 10 minutes later, all he would say was "no toilet paper, had to use pages from my book!" we left it at that!
Mexico city was amazing from the moment we stepped out of the airport, it was so bright, all the buildings painted different colours and little old VW bugs everywhere!
Our first hostel was located right by the Zocola in the historic quarter, so perfect location!
The hostel was a beautiful old building and we got excited................ until we saw our room! It was roughly the size of Auntie Hazels pantry, one bed and a chair, with a window overlooking a dorm room with 10 beds in, and a see through curtain that only half hung up! Great!
But it was only a bed so we got about exploring the city!
It was
soon clear that it was true that Mexico city is the most populated city in the world, its crazy!
The Zocola is the main square (most Mexican cities have one) and its also the 2nd largest square in the world!!
It really was beautiful, and we ended up going around the gorgeous cathedral that overlooked it and also around the Mayan ruins that are in the middle of the city.
The weather was beautiful and we had a wonderful first day, topped off with a great first night, as we got lucky by going to a restaurant on the 6th floor of a hotel that was open topped so we had the most amazing view of the Zocola at night, including free fireworks clearly thrown in for our arrival!!
Our great night was short lived though as we were in possibly the noisiest hostel in the world, therefore Luke hasn't´t slept through for 2 hours at a time since we arrived and he´s sporting the worlds biggest eye bags!
Our second day in Mexico city we spent at the Chatultepec where we went to the free city zoo, only to find out that the zocola is not only the worlds
largest thing to come from Mexico! The zoo was huge, and if i had seen one more animal i think i would´ve cried, it took us an hour just to find the exit!
Also there were the botanical gardens and the Museo Nacional De Antropologia, which is Mexico´s biggest and most important museum, showing us the entire history of Mexico and Central America!
The world´s longest day ended with the world´s longest sleepless night, poor Luke, all he wanted to do was check out and find the nearest luxury hotel!!
The next morning we finally checked out, and headed to meet the Bamba bus at the bus station!
We sat waiting in our little lounge, where the toilet had a guard so only our bus people could use it, and then we boarded our lovely luxury bus to Puebla!
Puebla was amazing, such a gorgeous little town, and this time our hostel was more like a hotel, with a gorgeous room, and much quieter!
We saw all of the main sighs in Puebla, the Zocola again, which is beautiful and their cathedral which is also beautiful and various other places, and we ate real Mexican food (not enchiladas or tacos
this time) and we both had a great time!
Finally last night we boarded a bus to Oaxaca. This was by far the most amazing part of our trip - the bus trundled along the edge of mountains, so high up we were in clouds with the most beautiful views for miles around! Although when your facing a drop of 1000s of metres it is slightly nerve wracking to say the least!
So now we now have a few days here, so we will probably update you when we move on!
Take care!!
